The Marina Alta continues strengthening its reputation as one of the Costa Blanca’s most environmentally diverse regions, with natural parks and protected landscapes attracting hikers, cyclists, birdwatchers and nature lovers throughout the year.

From wetlands filled with birdlife to dramatic mountain routes and iconic coastal formations, the region contains some of the Valencian Community’s most recognisable protected natural spaces. Local authorities and environmental organisations continue promoting sustainable tourism linked to these areas as interest in outdoor activities keeps growing.

Montgó remains one of the region’s most iconic landscapes

Among the best-known protected areas is the Montgo Natural Park, located between Denia and Javea. The mountain rises more than 750 metres above sea level and offers panoramic views across the Mediterranean coastline.

The park attracts thousands of visitors each year thanks to its hiking routes, Mediterranean vegetation and rich biodiversity. Several signposted trails lead through pine forests, rocky landscapes and viewpoints overlooking both the coast and inland valleys.

Peñón de Ifach remains symbol of the Costa Blanca

Another of the Marina Alta’s most recognisable natural landmarks is the Penyal d’Ifac Natural Park in Calp.

The massive limestone rock formation rises directly from the coastline and has become one of the Costa Blanca’s most photographed locations. The protected area is also home to numerous bird species and unique Mediterranean plant life adapted to the rocky environment. Visitor numbers have increased significantly in recent years, leading authorities to introduce reservation systems and conservation measures to protect the park.

Wetlands and biodiversity at Pego-Oliva marshes

Further inland, the Marjal de Pego-Oliva Natural Park offers a completely different landscape centred around wetlands, rivers and rice fields.

The protected area covers more than 1,200 hectares and is recognised internationally for its biodiversity and birdlife. The marshland forms part of the Ramsar Convention for wetland protection and the European Natura 2000 network. Visitors can explore the area through walking paths, birdwatching routes and cycling trails passing through natural springs and waterways.

Local tourism organisations say growing interest in sustainable travel and outdoor experiences is helping position the Marina Alta as more than simply a sun-and-beach destination, with protected natural spaces now playing an increasingly important role in the region’s identity.

Denia is preparing to welcome a new contemporary art exhibition this spring as artist Ramón Puig de la Bellacasa Alberola presents his latest collection, titled “Errancias”, at the Sala Gran of the Casa de Cultura.

The exhibition will officially open on Wednesday, May 28, at 7pm and will remain available to the public until June 13. Visitors will be able to explore the collection from Monday to Friday between 11am and 2pm and again from 5pm to 9pm. On Saturdays, the exhibition will open from 10am until 1.30pm.

Contemporary art arrives at Casa de Cultura

Organisers say “Errancias” will feature a selection of works exploring themes connected to movement, reflection and personal interpretation through contemporary artistic expression.

The exhibition is expected to offer visitors an immersive and thought-provoking experience, with the artist using different visual approaches to encourage emotional and personal responses from the audience.

Casa de Cultura has become one of Denia’s key cultural spaces, regularly hosting exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts and community events throughout the year. The venue continues to attract both local artists and touring exhibitions as the city strengthens its reputation as an important cultural hub in the Marina Alta region.

Denia expands its cultural programme

Local authorities say exhibitions such as “Errancias” form part of a wider effort to support regional artists while expanding Denia’s cultural calendar for both residents and visitors.

In recent years, the city has significantly increased its programme of spring and summer cultural activities, with exhibitions, live music events and artistic performances taking place across multiple venues throughout the municipality.

The initiative also reflects growing interest in cultural tourism across the Costa Blanca, where municipalities are increasingly combining traditional tourism with art, gastronomy and community-focused events to attract visitors outside the peak summer season.

The exhibition will be free to attend throughout its run.

Teulada-Moraira will host a large charity choir concert on Sunday, May 31, bringing together several choral groups and conservatories from across the Marina Alta region for an evening dedicated to music and solidarity. The “Concierto Benéfico Coral de Primavera” will take place at the Auditori Teulada Moraira at 8.30pm, with tickets priced at €11 and limited seating available.

The event forms part of the municipality’s wider cultural programme and is expected to attract music lovers from across the Costa Blanca North. The concert is also expected to attract international residents living across the Costa Blanca North who regularly attend cultural events and live music performances organised throughout the Marina Alta region.

Choirs and conservatories unite for charity

According to organisers, the concert will feature the participation of several choirs and music conservatories from towns throughout the Marina Alta, continuing a tradition of collaborative spring performances linked to charitable causes.

The Auditori Teulada Moraira has increasingly positioned itself as one of the region’s most important cultural venues, regularly hosting concerts, theatre productions and musical festivals throughout the year.

Local authorities and organisers said events such as the spring choir concert help strengthen community ties while supporting cultural life in the municipality.

Cultural calendar continues expanding

The charity concert forms part of a busy spring and summer programme in Teulada-Moraira that includes concerts, theatre, sporting events and the upcoming Moros y Cristianos celebrations in June.

Costa Blanca municipalities continue investing heavily in cultural tourism and live events aimed at attracting visitors outside the peak holiday season.

The Auditori Teulada Moraira has become a central part of that strategy, drawing audiences from across Alicante province with performances ranging from classical music and choir concerts to contemporary productions and international artists.

Organisers are encouraging residents and visitors to reserve tickets in advance due to limited capacity at the auditorium.
