Woman arrested for smuggling cocaine into Spain’s Barcelona hidden beneath her wig

A WOMAN has been arrested in Barcelona after police found 760 grams of cocaine, distributed among 58 packages, under her “bulky” wig.

Police in Barcelona arrested the woman last Monday in the Sant Andreu neighborhood of Barcelona, she now stands accused of drug trafficking. Authorities said that the detainee was returning from the Caribbean when she was detained, and that she was still wearing summer clothes.

In the same operation, officers from the Guàrdia Urbana arrested another person, who is also accused of drug trafficking.

According to a study carried out by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), residents and visitors to Barcelona consume more cocaine than in any other city in Europe.

The study analyzed the waste water of 120 cities across 37 countries between 2011 and 2017.  Researchers concluded that more cocaine is consumed in Barcelona than anywhere else, alongside London, Antwerp, Amsterdam and Zurich.

Barcelona also tops the list in Spain, and more than double the quantity of the drug is consumed in the Catalan capital than in any other Spanish city.

Doctor in Spain reunited with the baby he helped save 24 years ago — now she’s a nurse at the same Barcelona hospital

FATE came knocking when Dr Felix Castillo was reunited with a very special patient after over two decades.

On December 4, 1997, a little girl was born three months early at Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, weighing just 800 grams. A born fighter, Noelia Ruiz spent the first 12 weeks of her life in an incubator, battling to survive with the help of nurses and doctors by her side.

The team was led by head of Neonatology, Dr Castillo- and Noella never forgot what he did for her.

Inspired by the doctor who saved her life went on to become a nursing assistant.

Noelia, now 24, works at the very same hospital where she was born – and she couldn’t wait to catch up with the doctor she owed it all to.

The young nursing student plucked up the courage to knock on Dr Castillo’s door and the pair had an emotional reunion almost exactly 24 years on from the day they first met.

Dr Castillo said he was ‘absolutely surprised’ to open the door to Noelia and learn of her story.

The doctor recalled that in 1997, the survival rate for 24-week-old infants was dangerously low.

He said: “The life expectancy of a baby born at 24 weeks at that time was very unlikely and our means and knowledge was very limited.

“We could keep a child alive but what we didn’t know was what the neurological damage could be when the child grew older.

“I am delighted that Noelia is not only healthy but very smart.”

Noelia said of the reunion: “It was very nice. I found out that he worked there because I spoke with a colleague and she told me.

“I went to his office, introduced myself and he told me about my case. We were both very excited to see each other again.”

Real Madrid surge ahead at the top of LaLiga

Real Madrid travelled to San Sebastian in the Basque Country today, Saturday, December 4, to take on Real Sociedad in the Anoeta Stadium. A superb win saw Los Blancos climb eight points clear at the top of LaLiga.

Diego Simeone’s current champions, Atletico Madrid, surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to Mallorca, dropping them down to fourth place in the table. Barcelona were also beaten 1-0 at the Camp Nou, by Real Betis.

This result means that Carlo Ancelotti‘s men find themselves already ten points clear of Atletico, and an incredible 16 ahead of Xavi’s Catalan side. Sevilla are up to second, eight behind the leaders, with a match in hand, while Real Betis’s win in Catalonia sees them rise to third.

Vinicius Jr was on impressive form again, and the Brazilian winger opened the scoring after 47 minutes. He buried the ball into the bottom corner of the net with Luka Jovic his provider. Jovic had come on during the first half, in place of the injured Karim Benzema. The Serb took the opportunity to score his first goal of the season, heading home a Casemiro corner from close range on 57 minutes.

Real Sociedad put up very little in the way of a fight, lacking any creativity. Diego Rico set up Alexander Isak in the first half but his effort was well blocked by a very solid Eder Militao. Madrid could have had a third towards the end, but Alex Remiro in the home goal used his feet to deny Vinicius a second strike.
