Arsenal Kick Off English Premier League Season With Away Win At Crystal Palace

Arsenal started the 2022-23 Premier League season with a convincing 2-0 away win at Crystal Palace.

Arsenal kicked off the 2022-23 English Premier League season in style with a convincing 2-0 away win at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace this evening, Friday, August 5. Mikel Arteta’s men continued their pre-season form to sweep the Eagles aside in this year’s curtain-raiser.

Their new signing from Manchester City, Oleksandr Zinchenko, repaid part of his transfer fee in this opening game by providing an assist for the 21-year-old Brazilian, Gabriel Martinelli, to head home in the 20th minute.

Aaron Ramsdale had very little to do in the Arsenal goal but when he was eventually called into action he made a fine save from a close-range Joachim Andersen header.

Palace tried their best to get an equaliser, with Patrick Vieira’s side spurred on by a rowdy home crowd. It was game over though on 85 minutes when a searing ball into the box from Bukayo Saka was turned into his own net by Marc Guehi.

Speaking with BBC One’s Match of the Day afterwards, Arteta told them, “I have had this feeling for the first few weeks since the boys started pre-season. They are ready, they look hungry, with that mentality that they really want to win”.

“The team came here to play the way we wanted to play – we were dominant, we were a threat, we were really lively and sharp from the beginning. Then when we felt under pressure we coped with that with resilience”, he added, after his 50th Premier League victory as Arsenal manager.

It is too early to talk about the Gunners being title contenders, but Arteta has made some inspirational signings in the close season. Zinchenko already showed his talent, and his former teammate at the Etihad, Gabriel Jesus has had a huge impact scoring seven goals in five pre-season matches.

Arteta’s new captain, Martin Odegaard, looks to have what it takes to lead the team. A fine display in the centre of defence from 21-year-old Frenchman, William Saliba, will have also pleased his coach. He has spent the best part of his Arsenal career out on loan for the last three years.

China isn’t going to wait. They asked Nancy to give catalyst for a reason. Best to wrap up loose ends around the world now, as part of the “reset”

I can’t understand why US companies rushed to China and fed the monster?

And still feeding…

If they want cheap production, Turkey is ahead…

Why US has such a wrong foreign policy?#TRUMP2024 will fix this.

The People’s Liberation Army of China dispatched 68 aircraft and 13 vessels around Taiwan Strait, in its biggest military exercises around ever around the nation, as tensions continue to escalate, as reported on Friday, August 5.

The rising tensions between the nations come after Nancy Pelosi, speaker for the United States House of Representatives, enraged China after deciding to stage a US visit to Taiwan, a move that would potentially recognise Taiwan as an independent sovereign state, and not as the Republic of China.

However, many politicians were concerned, once the news of the visit spread, that if the US did not send Pelosi, it would look like the nation had backed down in front of China.

Taiwan’s ports and waterways, are now blocked by China as a consequence to the US visit, with the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) announcing several military exercises around Taiwan.

In addition, China has restricted flights around Taiwan during its military exercises in response to the US visit.

Four More Ships Loaded With Grain And Sunflower Oil Leave Ukrainian Ports

Published

On Sunday, August 7, another four cargo ships set sail from the Ukrainian ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk. This was the result of the deal brokered with Russia by Turkey and the United Nations to allow a safe maritime corridor for the export of goods.

These latest loads contained grain and sunflower oil and set sail across the Bosphorus strait for Turkey where they will be inspected on arrival. Two of them are due to dock in Turkey, while after inspections are completed, another of the four will head for Italy, and the other to China.

After the ships left on Sunday afternoon, another empty one arrived in the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk, where it will also be loaded with cargo to be exported.

The Razoni was the first ship to leave Odesa last week as part of this new deal. She had a cargo of 27,00 tons of corn and was due to dock in the Libyan port of Tripoli on Sunday. However, that has not happened.

When quizzed by Reuters this Sunday, the Ukrainian embassy in Lebanon informed them that the vessel had been ‘delayed’. They apparently offered no further information as to its arrival date. Her voyage had been seen as a trial run by the Joint Coordination Centre that had been set up in Istanbul. The Razoni’s experiences would then be used to fine-tune future trips they said at the time.

Ukraine’s task is to guide the vessels through waters previously mined by the Russian Navy. It is a deal that could obviously go wrong at any moment, but it has been initially agreed upon for a period of 120 days, with the added possibility of an extension if both sides are in agreement.

As a result of the conflict, and the subsequent blockade by the Russian Navy, around 20 million tons of grain have accumulated at ports in Ukraine. It is hoped that as much as three million tons can be exported each month as long as the agreement remains in place.

A global food crisis has been created by the cessation of exports from Ukraine, but the country’s authorities have been urging companies back to operate in the ports. Although exports have restarted, President Volodomy Zelenskyy has voiced his fears about security, as reported by bbc.com.

Earlier this year the UK and our allies pledged to address Putin’s threat to food security and end the grain blockade of Ukraine.

This is a welcome first step towards that outcome. I want to thank the @UN and Turkey for securing this agreement. https://t.co/Iqygs7e7AT

A burglar on the Balearic island of Mallorca was captured after attempting to jump from the balcony of a home he had just allegedly broken into.

As reported by the Guardia Civil on the Balearic island of Mallorca, a 48-year-old alleged burglar was arrested in the municipality of Es Pont d’Inca. He was detained on suspicion of being the alleged perpetrator of numerous robberies inside houses in the towns of Inca and Marratxi, as well as the theft of a vehicle.

The offender was captured after he broke both feet while attempting to jump from a first-floor balcony after being caught stealing inside a property.

In the early hours of the morning of Thursday, August 4, an alarm was tripped in a villa in the aforementioned town. Patrols from the Guardia Civil and the Local Police were promptly in attendance.

At the scene of alarm, police officers found a person who had just forced two doors of a house but had been surprised by the homeowners. When the thief jumped from the balcony of the second floor of the house, from a height of four meters, he had instantly broken both of his feet, which prevented him from fleeing.

After his arrest, the criminal was transferred to the Son Espases Hospital and later to the Guardia Civil cells. During the course of the subsequent proceedings, it was established that this person was responsible for at least three other robberies in the town of Inca while the homeowners slept.

He was also found to have stolen a van that he used to travel freely while committing his burglaries. The detainee, with a long history of robberies, was placed in a court, which decreed his admission to prison, without bail, as reported by laopiniondemalaga.es.
