Art lovers and tourists in the Costa Calida hub of Cartagena have a unique opportunity to experience photography in an entirely different way this April, thanks to a fascinating large open-air exhibition spread across the city centre. Running until April 12, FotoFest Cartagena will transform everyday streets into a vibrant public art gallery, putting Murcia’s talented photographers in the spotlight.
Hundreds of photographs depicting national and international beauty
The exhibition will feature more than 270 photographs, taken by 66 photographers on display at 14 different locations throughout the historic centre. The public nature of the exhibition allows passersby to encounter art and thought-provoking photographs naturally as they move through the city, whether shopping, sightseeing or simply enjoying a walk.
The collection is wide-ranging and diverse, spanning both colour and black-and-white photography. Organisers refer to the exhibition as a “kaleidoscope” of perspectives, ranging from landscapes and cultural traditions to everyday life.
Capturing Murcian identity in snapshots
A large part of the works focus on the Murcian identity and capture scenes that reflect the local heritage, community life, and Costa Calida culture. Among the images are snapshots of coastal locations, including La Puntica in San Pedro del Pinatar, as well as powerful depictions of Semana Santa processions in Cartagena, Yecla and even international scenes.
The aim of the exhibition is to bring photography directly to the public, making it accessible to everyone regardless of background or experience with art. By situating the works outdoors, the organisers turn Cartagena itself into an immersive cultural and artistic space. The photographs will add colour and creativity to the lively streets of the busy city, and visitors are welcome to enjoy the exhibition at their own leisure.
