British woman arrested for getting ex-husband to kidnap her former partner in Benidorm
A BRITISH woman has been arrested and jailed for allegedly getting two men- including her former husband- to rob and kidnap her ex-partner at their Benidorm area villa.
The motivation was money after their 14-year relationship ended and she returned to the United Kingdom in December.
She complained that her former partner- also British- was not giving her the financial support she needed.

As previously reported by the Olive Press, two people are already in prison following the failed kidnap at Callosa d’en Sarria on March 5.
They are a 64-year-old British man, who was married to her years earlier, and a Portuguese national, 56.
The woman appeared before a Villajoyosa court on Saturday and invoked her right to remain silent.
The judge determined she was a flight risk and could destroy evidence, which led to her being imprisoned.
The victim told the court that he did not have as much money as his assailants believed and believed he would have been killed.
He said his ex-partner contacted him at a gym to lure him back to the villa on the pretence that she needed a code number to unlock her mobile phone SIM card.
On arrival, he spotted two hooded men approaching him, but was able to run off and call for help.
The Guardia Civil arrived quickly to execute the arrests.
A search uncovered two air pistols, two tasers, and three self-defence sprays as well as balaclavas, gloves, masks, and a roll of duct tape which was going to be used to disable the victim.
They had also rented a van in France for their escape.
Guardia inquiries revealed that when the aggrieved woman returned to Britain, she resumed a relationship with her former husband, and a revenge kidnapping plan was hatched.
Her ex-hubby contacted a potential accomplice in Portugal and offered him €2,500 if he would join him in Spain to ‘scare somebody’.
All three in the plot used burner phones to communicate with each other.
Authorities were able to access some of the messages sent, including some from the woman, with others deleted..
The two arrested men had handwritten notes with password details, addresses, and even the names of various gyms.
A potential ‘own goal’ is that the woman sent a text from the UK to the victim stating that she was sorry for what happened- in reference to the attempted kidnapping.
That was despite the fact he did not tell her about the events of March 5.
It’s not known when the woman returned to Spain or where she was arrested.

Massive demand helps home construction soar to highest level for 17 years on Costa Blanca
CONSTRUCTION of new properties in Alicante province have soared to their highest level since the property bubble burst in 2008.
Figures from Alicante’s Official College of Technical Architecture (COATA) have revealed 2,727 new builds in the first quarter of this year.
That’s a 53% increase on the same period last year.

COATA president, Carlos Casas, told the Informacion newspaper: “The start of the year shows a remarkable intensity of activity, with figures that we have not seen since before the 2008 crisis.”
“This is a response to an economic environment that, despite the uncertainties, continues to be conducive to housing development and reflects a significant boost to the sector,” he added.
“Although such marked increases are not expected over the coming quarters, statistics indicate that the market is reacting to demand pressure by increasing the level of activity,” he continued.
Casas did issue a warning says that ‘we must be prudent and not take for granted that this rate of growth will be maintained’.
Inland areas plus Elche and Las Marinas have reached construction levels not seen for 17 years.
The most new builds continue to be recorded in the Vega Baja.
Broken down into municipalities, San Miguel de Salinas had the highest number of properties started this year at 275, followed closely by Mutxamel on 260.
Alicante follows with 258 homes, Villajoyosa on 257, Orihuela with 204, and Denia recording 200.
The average building cost per m2 stood at €559 during the first quarter of 2025, up by 2.9% on the 2024 annual figure.
VILLAJOYOSA has banned smoking on all of its beaches with the city signing up to the Valencian Community’s Smoke-Free Beaches network.
Last month, a ban was announced at Albir beach in l’Alfas del Pi.
Neighbouring Benidorm last summer introduced curbs across large sections of their main Levante and Poniente beaches.

Villajoyosa’s restrictions will cover 13 beaches and coves with the aim of creating healthy spaces for visitors.
Smoke-free flags will be displayed to warn visitors above the ban.
The council will also launch awareness campaigns about the dangers of smoking.
Health councillor, Maite Sanchez, said “All beach users will be able to enjoy a healthy and sustainable environmentally-friendly tourist area.”
“Not only does tobacco harm the health of bathers, but cigarette butts degrade the state of the sand and waters, in addition to damaging the environment,” Maite added.
A 2018 survey by the European Environment Agency showed that cigarette butts were the biggest source of beach pollution.
Besides the mess, they can kill marine life if swallowed.

Stunned Benidorm Tourist Sees Bank App Messages About Nine Transactions Made Minutes Later On Stolen Credit Card – Olive Press News Spain
A FOREIGN tourist in Benidorm had his wallet stolen and got nine transaction notifications using his missing credit card within minutes.
Nevertheless, the Policia Nacional arrested the two men behind the theft and a shop manager who used the card – just 20 minutes after the robbery.
The holidaymaker was returning at dawn to his apartment when his wallet was pinched by a man who then fled on a motorbike driven by a colleague.

The victim called the police with patrols looking for the culprits in the Old Town area.
Officers and the tourist watched the card charges rack up on his phone app, but helped by a description of the getaway bike, it was soon spotted outside a business.
The name of the premises matched one of the charges recorded on the victim’s online account.
Police officers covered the building exits after spotting three men inside, two of whom tried to escape.
One of the trio had US dollar bills, UK pounds and Brazilian currency in his pockets.
An officer spotted the store manager go into a corner where he threw four pieces of a cut-up credit card that was in the tourist’s name.
The man also had a health card that did not belong to him.
The police then analysed three payment terminals at the counter, which showed up all of the purchase statements made on the stolen card.
€2,610 was also found in the cash till, which officially recorded just €3 of business that day.
The three suspects were arrested for theft, fraud, money laundering and belonging to a criminal group.
