Dog found tied to bin sparks urgent hunt for missing puppies

A heartbreaking discovery in Dénia has sparked an urgent search for a litter of missing puppies after a recently pregnant dog was found abandoned and tied up beside a rubbish container.

Animal welfare volunteers are now appealing to the public for help as fears grow for the fate of the newborn pups, whose whereabouts remain unknown. According to local reports, the dog was discovered on the morning of Tuesday June 9 in the Partida Tossalet area of Dénia, close to a waste disposal point near the Trans Avellà facilities. She had reportedly been left tethered beside a bank of containers with no food, water or shelter.

Signs she had recently given birth

After being rescued and examined by volunteers from the local animal protection association APAD, it became clear that the dog had given birth very recently. The condition of the animal strongly suggested she was nursing puppies only days before she was abandoned. However, no trace of the litter was found at the scene.

The discovery has raised serious concerns among rescuers, who fear the puppies may have been separated from their mother and could now be in danger. Newborn dogs are entirely dependent on their mother during the first weeks of life, making the search particularly urgent.

Public appeal for information

APAD has launched a public appeal across social media and local channels in the hope that someone recognises the dog or knows where she came from. Volunteers believe even the smallest piece of information could help identify her owner or lead them to the missing puppies.

The organisation has shared photographs of the dog and is asking residents across the Marina Alta area to come forward if they have seen her before or know of a recent litter matching her description.

Growing concern over animal abandonment

The case has reignited concerns about animal abandonment in Spain, where rescue groups continue to report incidents involving dogs and puppies being left in dangerous circumstances. Similar investigations have been launched in other parts of the country after newborn puppies were found abandoned in bins or waste containers.

For APAD volunteers, however, the immediate focus remains on finding the missing puppies and reuniting them with their mother before it is too late. Anyone with information is being urged to contact the association as soon as possible.
