The Costa Blanca municipality of Dolores commemorated World Water Day with a full day of cleaning, environmental awareness, and a meeting between committed youths in an effort to spread care for the environment throughout the town. The municipality hosted the 2nd Meeting of Committed Young People on Saturday, March 21, taking place from the industrial park on Calle Cuenca.

The day consisted of an environmental cleanup initiative called the Green Patrol, an effort in which participants collected waste with the aim of keeping the municipality’s natural spaces free of litter and other debris.

During the day, organisers provided all necessary materials to the participants, including gloves and trash receptacles, in order to carry out the cleaning activities. The participants celebrated at the end of the day with a snack, building community spirit and adding a fun element to the day.

A large part of the Green Patrol’s mission is to avoid letting trash get into the sea; as a Costa Blanca municipality, Dolores shares a responsibility to keep the shorelines litter-free and safe for both the humans and animals that share the sparkling Costa.

World Water Day: An important day of observance on the Costa

World Water Day is an international initiative celebrated on March 22, backed by the United Nations. The aim of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater and sustainable management of water resources, including keeping lakes, canals and shorelines clean of litter. First observed in 1993, the day has helped to raise awareness of issues including water scarcity, climate change and the protection of marine ecosystems, often through educational campaigns, workshops and community activities.

On the Costa Blanca, the day is often celebrated through a mix of environmental and educational initiatives that reflect the region’s close relationship with the sea.

These celebrations also take on added significance in the Costa Blanca, where water scarcity has become an increasingly visible issue in recent years. Events across the region combine education and theory with practical action, encouraging residents and visitors alike to protect coastal and freshwater environments … while also maintaining a strong community and fun element.
