Spanish National Police joined forces with Italian police and Europol to break up a sophisticated criminal network responsible for violent luxury watch robberies. Officers executed the operation in Naples, resulting in 12 detentions during early Friday morning raids, May 15. All suspects belong to notorious Neapolitan groups known as “Paranzas,” which have been targeting high-end victims in popular Spanish destinations.

Criminals focused on key resort areas

Perpetrators selected locations such as Marbella, Malaga, Barcelona, Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca for their activities. These groups travelled from Italy using false documents and either imported vehicles or rented ones to facilitate quick escapes. Teams typically consisted of three to five members with clearly assigned roles who conducted extensive surveillance on affluent tourists in hotels, restaurants, beaches and luxury shopping districts.

Quick grab attacks followed by speedy setaways

Robbers executed snatch-and-grab incidents with speed and force, ripping watches directly from victims’ wrists before fleeing on motorcycles or scooters. Stolen items then moved out of Spain through established international channels for resale of the watches. This methodical approach allowed the gangs to strike efficiently in crowded tourist zones frequented by wealthy visitors.

Investigation stretches across borders

Officers issued European arrest warrants from various Spanish judicial authorities to make the Naples captures. Authorities have now recorded 31 detentions linked to this probe across several European nations. Police statements say that rising values in the luxury watch market have driven expansion of such crimes throughout the continent, creating a growing transnational problem that requires joint international responses.

Broader implications for tourist security

Efforts like this operation demonstrate effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies to combat organised theft rings preying on visitors. Detailed planning by the criminals, including victim selection and escape routes, shows the professional level these groups operate at in popular European holiday areas. Continued vigilance and cross-border cooperation will remain essential to protect tourists and deter similar activities in high-value watch thefts.

Future phases of the investigation may uncover additional links and prevent further incidents in Spain’s key resort regions. This case goes to show the importance of intelligence sharing among European police forces facing mobile criminal networks.
