Ferrari have announced a ‘fresh’ look for their Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix.

The new team-mates will be hoping to put a disastrous Australian GP behind them in Shanghai, as their 2025 campaign got off to an embarrassing start.

Not only did Ferrari fail to match the pace of McLaren in qualifying, but the team made a major strategy blunder by leaving Hamilton and Leclerc out on slicks as the rain began to fall during the late stages of the grand prix.

As a result the pair were brought into the pits too late for wet weather tyres, and could only manage a finish of P8 and P10, with Hamilton earning one solitary point on his Ferrari debut.

Can Ferrari turn their performances around in China?

Following a difficult race in Melbourne Ferrari have admitted to their mistakes during the season opener, and have promised to unleash their pace at the Chinse GP.

One major point the team will address are Hamilton’s communications with his new race engineer Riccardo Adami, who he was involved in a series of tense radio exchanges with during the grand prix.

The champion frequently asked to be left alone, as Adami seemed to be giving too much information over the airwaves with some teething problems still occurring in their partnership.

However, Ferrari have wiped the slate clean for the Chinese GP and aim to come back fighting, with a new look for their driver pairing also being unveiled.

In a recent Instagram post, Ferrari revealed a picture of Hamilton and Leclerc in a new Ferrari top captioned: “Fresh looks for the Chinese GP.”

The new team look departs from the usual red t-shirt splattered with sponsorship, and instead opted for a more luxurious look with a polo t-shirt and a ¾ button up in collaboration with Puma.

Lewis Hamilton‘s first race with Ferrari got off to a disastrous start, with a series of team radio messages delivered to his new race engineer highlighting the Formula 1 champion’s frustration.

The 40-year-old finished the Australian Grand Prix in 10th, and his frustrations with Ferrari’s pace could be heard over team radio with his new race engineer Riccardo Adami.

Hamilton’s long-term race engineer Peter Bonnington did not follow the champion to Ferrari, where he has instead inherited Carlos Sainz‘s former race engineer.

However, Hamilton seemed annoyed at Adami’s constant chatter during the race in Melbourne, often being asked to be left alone as he tried to tackle the wet conditions.

Hamilton’s Ferrari debut gets off to a nightmare start

Following the race, Sky Sports F1 pundit Karun Chandhok claimed it would take a while for Hamilton’s relationship to develop with his race engineer, and suggested they will have a conversation ahead of the Chinese GP.

“One of the things that came out of all the radio messages we played as he and his engineer Riccardo Adami need to have a bit more time to understand just how much communication Lewis wants and what type of information,” Chandhok said on Sky Sports F1.

“There were a number of times Lewis asked, tell me something, they would give him information but then Lewis said it’s too much, stop telling him and leave it to me. They just need to build that bond.

“Race engineers and drivers will spend more time together than they do with their partners in the season. It’s still round one and they just have to find their feet, maybe have a conversation between now and China. I would be interested to listen to the radio in China and see if it’s different. They just need to have a conversation.”

Sky Sports F1 pundit Ted Kravitz has issued a jibe towards Christian Horner after Red Bull’s qualifying performance at the Australian Grand Prix.

Horner’s team endured a mixed start to their 2025 season, with Max Verstappen appearing to outperform the car with a P3 grid starting position – even looking the favourite for pole position at one point.

However, Liam Lawson failed to even make it into Q2 with a mistake during qualifying seeing him unable to set a time faster than P18.

Meanwhile, Racing Bulls star Yuki Tsunoda – who was also the driver snubbed for the Red Bull promotion – managed a stunning P5 qualifying result ahead of team-mate Isack Hadjar, also finishing ahead of both Ferraris.

Should Tsunoda have won the Red Bull promotion?

Kravitz was quick to issue a jibe at Horner for his 2025 Red Bull driver choice after Tsunoda’s qualifying performance, bolstering the Japanese star’s achievement.

“Yuki Tsunoda got a tow off Lando Norris for which he says he is going to get him a cup of coffee, because they do very good coffee down here at Racing Bulls,” Kravitz told Sky during Ted’s Notebook.

“He’s ended up P5. Take that Christian Horner with your choice of Liam Lawson for Max Verstappen’s partner! Yuki is going to make a habit of this, of showing how quick he is.”

“I don’t think it’s going to change Helmut Marko and Christian Horner’s mind,” Kravitz added.

“As far as they’re concerned, they need Yuki to be as quick as possible to make this team as high up in the constructors’ championship as possible so they can get the most prize money, sponsorship and all the rest of it.

“I don’t think he’s ever going to get the Red Bull drive,” Kravitz continued. “But at least he’s delivering, showing his quality and how quick he is.”
