Mijas Pueblo will become the heart of Latin culture this week, as the beautiful village hosts one of the most exciting free events of the summer. Running from Thursday, June 18 through Sunday, June 21, the Mijas Gastro Latin Festival [III Festival Gastrolatino de Mijas] will bring four evenings packed with live music, sensational food from across Latin America, tropical cocktails, and family-friendly entertainment.
The event was officially announced by Mijas councillor Melisa Ceballos, and festival promoter Rafael Urquiza of Roots Productions. Urquiza described the upcoming celebration as four days of bachata, salsa, merengue, Colombian folk music and gastronomy, loaded with joy.
Star-studded tribute acts and live music
Music is at the heart of this festival, featuring a high-quality line-up of tribute performances dedicated to some of the biggest names in Latin music history. Audiences can enjoy electrifying shows paying homage to salsa superstar Marc Anthony, Colombian folk legend Carlos Vives, Dominican merengue icon Juan Luis Guerra and his band 4.40, and the King of Bachata himself, Romeo Santos.
Organisers confirmed that many of the performing artists and international salsa groups have previously appeared on well-known Spanish television talent shows, including Talent Land and The Voice, ensuring a spectacular experience each evening.
A feast of authentic Latin American flavours
No Latin festival would be complete without a rich foody experience, and this event delivers. The dedicated gastronomic zone will feature food trucks and stalls representing around ten Latin American nations. Visitors can savour authentic dishes including Colombian corn cakes, Cuban sandwiches, Chilean sandwiches, and traditional Argentine meats, all complemented by tropical drinks from a specialized cocktail bar.
Family entertainment and community awards
The four-day festival has been designed with all generations in mind. Doors open at 6pm each day, with the early evening programme holding children’s entertainment and fairground-style attractions. A comfortable seating terrace will also be available for visitors who prefer to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
A major moment of the weekend will be the presentation of the Latin Person of the Year award. This edition will recognise a well-known local hospitality figure for their outstanding and longstanding contribution to the Mijas community.
This exciting event is now in its third year in Mijas, and its ninth as part of the wider Latin Festival in Andalucia.
