A private nursery in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, has become the centre of public outrage after a video emerged showing a worker violently mistreating a one-and-a-half-year-old girl.
According to El Mundo, the footage – secretly recorded by an intern – shows the nursery worker grabbing the child by the neck, pressing her against a wall, and forcefully feeding her with a spoon while she screamed and cried.
The video, which was later broadcast on Antena 3 captures the worker shouting: “Spit it out? I’ll put it back in you. Don’t spit your food out. Swallow it, swallow it!” She can also be seen shaking the child, who then hits her head against the wall.
Four arrests at Cascanueces nursery school, Madrid
As eldiario.es reports, four employees of the Cascanueces nursery school, located on Río Pelayo Street, have been arrested. Two face charges of child abuse, while the other two are accused of failing to report the assault or provide assistance. A spokesperson for Madrid’s National Police Headquarters confirmed the arrests to Europa Press.
The complaint came from a student intern who witnessed the abuse. Noticias para Municipios explains that the student recorded the video, showed it to her mother Coral, who then alerted authorities and helped make the footage public.
El Mundo further notes that, shockingly, other nursery staff – including the director – were present in the room during the abuse but did not intervene. This failure to act has of course intensified parental anger.
According to eldiario.es, several families have filed formal complaints, while many others have already pulled their children from the nursery. Parents have been gathering at the school gates demanding answers and accountability.
In response, El Mundo reports that the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has formally requested that the Madrid-East Territorial Directorate of the Ministry of Education urgently launch an investigation. They have also asked the Education Inspection Service to assess the school’s operation, staff conduct, and overall compliance with educational law.
The Torrejón de Ardoz City Council is offering assistance through its Education Department (located at Calle Boyeros 5), including help enrolling children in other early education centres. Affected families can also call 91 678 25 60, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
