La Caleta de Velez enters its fair week with a wonderful goal, focusing this year’s celebrations on raising funds for a much‑needed shade structure at the local nursery. Residents and local associations are joining forces from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5 to support the project through two solidarity food events and fun.

Strong community spirit drives the fair

La Caleta de Vélez is preparing for its annual feria, with an emphasis on practical support for local families. This year’s programme has been shaped by Deputy major David Segura, Councillor Lourdes Piña, and the local festivities committee, who have prioritised community needs and intergenerational involvement.

Fundraising for the local nursery

A main focus of the 2026 edition is a fundraising effort for Escuela Infantil Virgen del Mar, the local nursery. Money raised will go towards installing a protective shade structure, to improve outdoor conditions for young children in the intense summer heat.

Saturday’s sardinada popular, a sardine cook‑out, will be led by espeteros keeping food traditions from the Axarquia coast. On Sunday you can enjoy Paella prepared by a local neighbourhood association.

Traditions runs through the fair

La Caleta de Velez’s maritime character runs throughout the programme. The sardinada shows the town’s connection to its fishing port, one of the busiest in the region. Local dance groups, choirs, and youth football teams will also feature, giving local neighbourhood associations a platform during the fair.

Events have been designed to include all generations. Children’s day opens the fair on July 2, A Seniors’ Dinner on July 3 especially for the older residents. There is also a local pageant spanning across 3 age catergories, children, adults and seniors ensuring no one is left out.

La Caleta de Velez Fair runs July 2 to 5. Enjoy as the town celebrates with four days of music, dancing, family entertainment and delicious local food, all for a great cause.
