Recently, the La Cala Lions Diabetic Support Group achieved a mammoth success with their Diabetes Awareness Campaign.

The stall at the Mijas Health Day event offered free glucose testing to the public and an impressive 101 people took advantage of the opportunity to get tested. Organised by the Department of Health, the Health Day event in the Torreón Square in La Cala de Mijas, was a huge success.

In just three hours the Diabetic Support Group‘s two nurses Fay and Mercy, tested 101 members of the public for their glucose levels, aiming to raise awareness about diabetes, its symptoms and the importance of early detection.

There were many other interesting stalls including the Red Cross and Adimi as well as our own Lions Alzheimer Support Group. Sandie was busy showing everyone the Muff Fiddlers! These little knitted muffs come complete with bells, ring, zips, buttons, balls, corks etc. so that the sufferers from dementia can literally fiddle with these for calm and comfort.

Well done to Mijas Town Hall for organising such an educational and happy day. The Lions are committed to making a positive impact in La Cala de Mijas and surrounding areas and supporting communities and meeting humanitarian needs. New Urban Rules In Rincon De La Victoria

Rincon de la Victoria has officially approved its new Mobility Ordinance, which brings regulations in line with modern transportation needs and the current legal rules.

The new rules replace the previous ordinance from 2008. Local authorities want to make Rincon de la Victoria a “more pedestrian-friendly, sustainable city, with open spaces and better public transport.” The plan is to transform the town into a greener and more efficient urban environment.

The update also seeks to standardize the list of infractions and penalties, also aligning them with those already enforced in many other municipalities across Malaga province.

Mayor Francisco Salado welcomed the move, describing it as “a step forward for improving road safety and coexistence in the town.” Salado said that the ordinance was necessary not only to replace an outdated legal framework but also to regulate the growing use of personal mobility vehicles (PMVs), such as electric scooters, which are now widely used throughout the town.

The ordinance lays out clear regulations designed to meet the needs of a town that now exceeds 50,000 residents. In 2024, according to Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE), Rincon de la Victoria surpassed 52,000 citizens. It is the ninth most populated municipality in the Malaga province and the second in the Axarquia region, after Velez-Malaga.

Don Carlo Ancelotti looks set to swap sangria for samba, with the Real Madrid boss very close to becoming Brazil’s new manager, according to bombshell rumours.

The legendary Italian, who’s steered the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan and Madrid to glory, is expected to pack his bags as soon as next week, with talks heating up faster than a Rio summer.

According to the latest reports, negotiations will continue into May, but the writing’s already on the wall at the Bernabéu. Diego Fernandes, the Brazilian businessman thought to be brokering the blockbuster move, was even spotted at the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, April 26 – raising eyebrows and fuelling speculation.

Brazil have been sweet-talking Ancelotti ever since their World Cup dreams crumbled in 2022. Now, with the 2026 tournament looming, the Seleção seem desperate to get their man – and fast. Ideally, they’d like “Don Carlo” calling the shots before the June internationals.

Both Real Madrid and the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) have been tight-lipped, refusing to comment. But behind closed doors, it’s clear Brazil are ready to samba to Ancelotti’s beat.

If it all goes through, Ancelotti will make history as the first foreigner to take permanent charge of Brazil’s national team – and with his trophy cabinet groaning under the weight of silverware, few would bet against him adding the World Cup to his glittering collection. Stay tuned.
