The provincial government body members gave the go ahead during their meeting on June 17 for contracts to improve road markings on the provincial country road network. Total value reaches €2.1 million with action planned on 600 kilometres across 99 roads under council responsibility.

Project delivery structure

Council services for roads divide the province into four operational areas mostly aligned with natural regions. Contracts will go out in four lots covering Axarquia, Antequera North, Guadalhorce Valley and Serrania de Ronda. All improvements will finish within three months after the contract is awarded.

Steady commitment to better roads

Council president Francisco Salado has stressed the ongoing commitment to modernise and improve the provincial road network through consistent yearly investments of around €20 million, with efforts over five years reinforcing road surfaces to keep carriageways and verges in top condition. Fresh plans now add road-marking improvements to guide drivers better in daylight and at night.

Upgrades planned for Axarquia

Action in the eastern zone covers 32 roads with a combined length of 174.4 kilometres. The contract value for this lot stands at €590,000. Affected routes include MA-3103 from A-7000 to MA-3111, MA-3106 linking Cutar and El Borge, plus several more serving local communities.

Works scheduled in Guadalhorce Valley

Twenty-one roads feature in the central valley zone plans with a total length reaching 140.4 kilometres. The contract amount for these works comes to €528,000. Specific routes set for marking upgrades encompass MA-3101 from A-45 to Casabermeja via Los Gamez and MA-3304 from Cartama to Alhaurin el Grande plus others in the zone. Land slides, tree root tarmac upheaval, potholes and serious cracks in road surfaces have seriously marred smooth driving on multiple roads in the area.

Remaining zones to reach full coverage

Similar contract processes will cover the north of Antequera and Serrania de Ronda zones to meet the full target of 99 routes and 600 kilometres province-wide. Coordinated works across all areas will keep tightly to consistent standards.
