Foody fans get ready to sample and buy, as producers large and small from all across Malaga are packing up their vans to share their goods with the people of Mijas.

Returning favourite heads to the boulevard

La Cala de Mijas will host the ‘Sabor a Malaga’ regional fair from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27, bringing food and drink producers from across the province to the town for three days of tastings and demonstrations.

Sabor a Malaga visits a different town roughly every month, having already called at Velez-Malaga, Rincon de la Victoria, Nerja and Benalmadena earlier in 2026. Each edition brings a similar tried and tested format. Free entry, a market of small producers, and a programme of cookery demonstrations built around regional specialities like goat’s cheese from the Serrania de Ronda, avocados from the Axarquia and moscatel wine from El Borge.

An important tour for the region’s small producers

Small, often family-run businesses benefit most from these fairs, which connect them directly with customers and cut out the usual retail chain, giving producers a rare chance to sell face-to-face. For a town with a mix of long-term residents and holidaymakers, that direct link between farm and table gives shoppers the perfect opportunity to ask questions and learn where their food actually comes from.

Around thirty producers from across the province will set up stalls on the boulevard for you to browse and enjoy offering native products and specialities tied to their home towns. Organisers describe the event as a chance to get to know local producers directly and buy goods that rarely make it onto supermarket shelves, from cured meats and cheeses to honey, wine and artisan bread.

Anyone planning to be in Mijas that weekend can enjoy tastings, live cookery and family-friendly entertainment. Stalls open at 11am each day, with Friday and Saturday sessions running until 9pm and Sunday wrapping up an hour earlier at 8pm. Dog Lovers Day Out At Casares Guau Fest

Dog owners and lovers have a treat in store, as Casares Costa gets ready to welcome its beloved pets festival back for another helping of fun, learning and tail-wagging togetherness.

What’s happening at this year’s celebration

Jardines del Rosario opens up its gardens on Sunday, September 27 from 11am for Guau Fest, or “Woof Fest” if you prefer! Casares Town Hall organises the free family gathering together with Comunicacion Al Dente, weaving it into the wider “Deja Huella” (Leave a Mark) awareness campaign that encourages owners to clean up after their dogs and treat animals with care and respect.

Visitors can browse stalls selling pet products and services, listen to talks on canine training and behaviour, and let children loose on workshops designed just for them. The debut edition featured face painting, balloon modelling and a costumed character visit for younger guests, giving a flavour of what families might find this time round.

Treats, workshops and a canine cookery class

New additions this year include a dog illustration workshop and a canine bakery session, where owners can learn to whip up homemade snacks for their pets. Free gifts under the “Casares Dog Lovers” banner will also be handed out, with food and drink stalls on hand to keep hungry humans fuelled.

A Canine Unit will demonstrate the impressive work carried out by assistance and detection dogs, giving the public a rare glimpse of these highly trained animals in action. La Linea’s Local Police are bringing their own handlers and dogs to the festival, building on the involvement seen at previous gatherings.

This beloved annual gathering’s goal is to bring rescue dogs and cats along the coast a brighter future, and you can help.

Delicious lunch in a stunning setting

Restaurante El Jinete will again open its doors for the Autumn Charity Lunch in aid of ACE-SHIN (Animal Care España), taking place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 2pm onwards. Anyone who books a seat can look forward to a relaxed afternoon of delicious food and friendly company, all in support of a wonderful cause.

Tickets are priced at €50 per person, and that covers a welcome drink on arrival, a generous three-course lunch (with vegetarian options available), and two drinks per guest during the meal. Bread and water are also included, and most importantly, €10 from every ticket sold goes straight to ACE’s rescue work.

A mouth-watering menu worth getting excited about

The spread fuses Spanish flavours with international favourites. Starters include a warm goat’s cheese salad with caramelised onion and seasonal fruit, foie mousse served with Cumberland sauce, prawns pil pil, and an Argentinian-style meat pie accompanied by grilled chorizo. For mains, guests can choose from pork ribs glazed in bourbon barbecue sauce, an Italian-style chicken schnitzel, pan-fried calf’s liver, a 200-gram chargrilled entrecote, or a lighter option of oven-baked hake fillet. Vegetarians aren’t forgotten either, with spinach and ricotta tortelloni or a pistachio-crowned bauletti on offer. To finish, there’s a choice of classic apple pie with vanilla ice cream or a banana and rum trifle topped with dulce de leche.

Music, prizes and giving

Local singer Harvey James will provide live entertainment throughout the afternoon, and a charity raffle featuring some excellent prizes will run alongside the meal.
