I find myself stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, a rock and a hard place; at the point of no return.
For years I have feared the forseeable consequences for our brains, for our society and for our futures as a consequence of the imposed incorporation of AI into everything.
At first I refused to use it as I didn’t want to help educate it to become self reliant. Then I only used it for translating the news for English Edition but now, having recently created a project using AI as my assistant, I realise I too have passed the point of no return.
I’d been waiting for several weeks for a presentation from my graphic designer but he’s been very busy. With valuable time passing and becoming more than a little anxious I thought to ask AI if it could help in this respect. Seven minutes later I had my first draft; maybe not as good as if it had been done “professionally” but perfectly sufficient for my needs. Indeed I accomplished more in one afternoon than I could have done in several weeks, with copious notes and spreadsheets automatically saved, but I betrayed myself and my coworker in the process.
So now I’m part of the problem: instead of waiting for a human being to do it within human capacity, I opted to make him redundant. It’s that damned if you do and damned if you don’t scenario: if we’re not using it we are at a disadvantage compared with the rest of the commercial world that is embracing it so wholeheartedly and if we do, well, how long before it replaces the rest of us too?
