The coastal town of Los Alcazares has once again been named the happiest place to live in the Region of Murcia, according to the latest 2026 quality of life index, scoring 89.77 points..

The ranking highlights a consistent pattern rather than a one-off result. Los Alcazares continues to stand out for its balance of sunshine, access to services and a strong sense of community, factors that are increasingly shaping how people choose where to live. Situated along the shores of the Mar Menor, the town combines coastal living with everyday convenience, making it attractive not only to retirees but also to families and remote workers.

Other municipalities in the region also performed strongly in the index, with San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier and Cartagena ranking among the top places to live. However, Los Alcazares maintained a clear lead, reinforcing its position at the top for another year.

One of the key elements behind its continued success is accessibility. Compared to larger Spanish cities, property prices and general living costs remain relatively manageable, while essential services such as healthcare, shops and leisure facilities are all within easy reach. This combination creates a lifestyle that is both practical and enjoyable, something that residents consistently value.

The town’s layout also plays a role. Walkable streets, open public spaces and a seafront promenade encourage outdoor activity throughout the year, supported by a climate that offers long hours of sunshine even outside the summer months. These everyday advantages contribute significantly to overall wellbeing, turning routine activities into part of a more relaxed way of life.

Importantly, this is not the first time Los Alcazares has topped the ranking. Its ability to maintain the number one position reinforces its reputation as one of the most desirable locations in the region. Rather than relying on rapid growth or large-scale development, the town’s appeal lies in its stability and balance.

As lifestyle priorities continue to evolve across Spain, smaller coastal towns like Los Alcazares are gaining attention for offering a higher perceived quality of life without the pressures of major urban centres. Happiness is increasingly linked to simplicity, accessibility and environment, and Los Alcazares appears to deliver all three with remarkable consistency.
