Picador Launches The Croquette Journey

Croquettes are taking centre stage as Picador restaurant at La Zambra Resort launches ‘The Croquette Journey’, a limited-time dining event celebrating one of the most loved classics in Spanish cuisine.

The event that has been running from March 27, is a new gastronomic experience which invites diners to explore a changing selection of croquettes, with new creations introduced each week alongside returning favourites that have already earned a following. Among the standout options is Picador’s well-known cured beef and roasted bone marrow croquette, a richer, more contemporary take on the traditional recipe.

The croquette is a classic dish with deep roots in Spanish culture

Set among the golf courses close to the traditional village of Mijas, the restaurant is using the event to put a fresh spotlight on a dish that is deeply tied to Spanish food culture. The idea is to encourage people to come together, share plates and enjoy the kind of flavours that feel both familiar and inventive.

The concept has been developed under the direction of executive chef Juanjo Solano, who leads the kitchen at La Zambra with a style that fuses Andalusian roots with subtle Latin influence, revisiting a classic in a way that feels modern but still stays connected to local identity, memory and seasonal produce. At Picador, the croquette is being presented as a dish that carries tradition, nostalgia and creativity in equal measure, offering diners the chance to rediscover an Andalusian favourite from a new perspective and more than a simple tapa.

The expected 3 month event could be extended if popular

Described as crisp on the outside and creamy within, the croquettes will be priced from €16 for six. The event is expected to run for around three months, although it could be extended if it proves popular. La Zambra Resort says the initiative forms part of its wider commitment to gastronomy based on tradition, quality ingredients and creativity.

The resort itself has a long Costa del Sol history. First opened in 1986 as the Hotel Byblos, it became one of the area’s best-known luxury destinations before closing for more than 12 years. After a full renovation, it reopened in 2022 under its new identity as La Zambra and is currently the only hotel in Mijas to hold a Michelin Key distinction.

For fine food lovers on the Costa del Sol, The Croquette Journey could offer one more reason to head to Mijas this spring. For information and booking go to lazambrahotel.com
