The Andalusian Rescue Centre for Horses in Alhaurín el Grande now holds official Utilidad Publica status, granted by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. This honour crowns nearly two decades of unwavering commitment since the charity’s founding in 2009. Dedicated rescuers have saved countless abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, offering them rehabilitation and loving new homes.
Stronger laws and growing awareness drive progress
Such official acknowledgement highlights increasing respect for animal welfare across Spain. Recent improvements in protection legislation have enabled charities like ARCH to operate more effectively. Close collaboration with authorities, including SEPRONA, the nature protection of the Guardia Civil, and local police forces, has strengthened rescue operations and guaranteed quicker intervention when equines face cruelty or abandonment.

ARCH maintains vital government contracts, including the rehoming of retiring cavalry horses and the intake of abandoned equines in Alhaurin el Grande.
