Get ready for an explosion of colour as Torre del Mar’s bright and buzzy beach colour race returns on Sunday, June 7. This year it has taken things up a notch with new obstacle zones, more giveaways and of course a dedicated commitment to raising autism awareness
An unmissable date in Axarquia
Torre del Mar will once again play host to the Carrera del Color en la Playa, or Colour beach run on Sunday, June 7, from 10:30am, filling the seafront promenade for the ninth year running with music, sport, joy and solidarity. The race start line is set near the Music Pavilion.
Torre del Mar deputy mayor Jesus Perez Atencia described the event as “an essential fixture in Torre del Mar’s sporting and family leisure calendar”, adding that it is “an event that brings together sport, community spirit, tourism, economic activity and social commitment.”
New obstacles add extra excitement to the route
This year’s race has had a little upgrade and introduces some exciting new additions. Covering five kilometres through the beach, the seafront promenade and the coastal path as far as the port breakwater, the course now incorporates obstacle zones at specific points, including Playa Senior and the Street Workout area, as well as colour stations and more entertainment along the course.
Race organiser Francisco Ortiz, of Riders Running, encouraged participants to arrive early ahead of the 10:30am start, and confirmed that music, colour, animation, surprises and a grand closing party would all feature once again.
Prizes, costumes and a party to remember
At the end of the race, prize draws will offer some amazing rewards including a PlayStation, bicycles, smartwatches and tablets. Well worth making a full day of it and staying until the very end. A costume contest with prizes for individuals, couples and teams brings extra fun for those who want to fully get into the spirit of the day.
Every ticket supports ACTEA and autism awareness
One euro from every registration goes directly to ACTEA, an association supporting people on the autism spectrum and their families. Perez Atencia described ACTEA as carrying out “fundamental work in our region, accompanying, guiding and giving support to many families.”
ACTEA vice-president Maria del Mar Vargas expressed deep gratitude for the visibility the event brings to a reality that, she noted, “often remains invisible.” Vargas stressed that “autism is not an illness, you don’t come to cure it, you come to accompany, understand and accept.”
Registration is available online and in person at Zona Joven in Velez-Malaga and Box Aquiles at Plaza Mar in Torre del Mar.
