Torrevieja is moving forward with a new investment in local sports infrastructure, awarding a €640,000 contract to improve several outdoor sports courts across the municipality. The project, approved by the Local Government Board on April 7, focuses on upgrading facilities in La Mata, Cabo Cervera, and Los Balcones, three areas where public sports spaces are widely used by residents.
Improvements aimed at safety and accessibility
The works are designed to address wear and tear caused by years of use, with many of the existing facilities showing signs of deterioration. According to the project details, improvements will focus on making the spaces safer, more accessible, and better suited to current needs.
Planned upgrades include the renovation of playing surfaces, replacement of damaged fencing, and improvements to access points. New sports markings and anti-slip coatings will also be applied to ensure safer use for all age groups. Lighting will be modernised with more efficient systems, allowing the courts to be used more comfortably during evening hours while reducing energy consumption.
A boost for everyday sport in local communities
The selected locations highlight the city’s focus on neighbourhood-level facilities rather than large-scale venues. These courts are regularly used by families, young people, and local sports groups, making them an important part of daily life in these areas. By improving these spaces, the council aims to encourage more people to stay active and make better use of public areas designed for recreation and exercise.
Long-term value for residents and visitors
While the upgrades may seem practical in nature, their impact is expected to be long-lasting. Better-quality surfaces and improved infrastructure reduce maintenance needs and extend the lifespan of the facilities. For residents, this means more reliable and enjoyable spaces for sport and leisure. For visitors, particularly during peak seasons, it adds to the availability of well-maintained public amenities across the city.
As Torrevieja continues to invest in its neighbourhood infrastructure, projects like this help ensure that everyday spaces keep pace with demand, offering safe and functional environments for both recreation and community use.
