Torrox puts €288,000 into old-town streets to get a serious rebuild

Torrox town hall is lining up more than €288,000 for two historic streets in the old centre, Refinos and El Porton. Mayor Oscar Medina called the jobs a clear bet on the old quarter after similar work on Andazalia, Cebadillas Bajas and Matadero, plus the municipal market, the ceramic mural on Avenida de Competa and the fountain at La Almedina.

Medina walked both streets and said the point is better daily life for people who live there, pipes that no longer leak, and a centre that looks after itself rather than crumbling between tourist seasons. Streets here are not just tarmac; they are the picture visitors take home and the route locals use every morning.

Clay paving and new drains for El Porton

El Porton will lose its worn surface for traditional clay tiles, gain proper pavements and new storm drains tied into the rainwater network. Water and sewer pipes get replaced at the same time. The package comes in at almost €209,000 and is part of the Programa de Fomento de Empleo Agrario, paid for jointly by Torrox council, Malaga Provincial Council and the Junta de Andalucia. Aqualia takes Refinos pipes and tiles

On Refinos, water firm FCC Aqualia will rip out and replace supply and sewer lines, house connections and inspection chambers over 69 metres. Pavement goes back down in tiles across about 226 square metres. Budget sits close to €80,000. Officials say the work should stop bursts and keep services running for the homes packed into that stretch.

Fernandez added that tidy streets and working pipes help shops stay open and give residents a centre they actually want to use. Council staff say this follows the same pattern as earlier centre jobs rather than a one-off splash.
