Will beach go-ers finally get to enjoy showers on Spain’s Costa del Sol this summer?

THANKS to the plentiful rain over the past few weeks, water reservoirs appear to have regained enough capacity to turn on the showers on many tourist beaches along the Costa del Sol.

The final decision will be made when a report about the state of the water levels in storage is finalised.

“Everything points to the fact that there will be showers on the beaches this summer,” said the spokeswoman of the Malaga council Elisa Perez de Siles.

Perez stated that the water data ‘looks favourable’, however, she declined to give a specific date when the decision will be made.

Showers may return to beaches in Malaga

Despite these early positive signs, water restrictions remain in place in Andalucia.

A person in the region is permitted to use 200 – 235 litres of water per day.

It remains forbidden to use drinking water for filling up swimming pools, washing cars or any other non-essential use of water.

The ban on beach showers is still in place. The lifting of this ban is now being investigated by the Malaga city council.

From April 30 to May 4, Fuengirola’s fairgrounds come alive with the colours and sounds of the Feria de los Países, one of the biggest events in the Fuengirola calendar showcasing the different cultures resident in the town.

This year, 33 nations are taking part, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, and Senegal, as they present their traditions, cuisines, and musical performances, attracting locals and tourists to this colourful cultural display from as far afield as Malaga city.

Known locally as the ‘Feria de los Pueblos’, the fair features 33 country-themed stalls, each presenting authentic music, dance, decor, and traditional dishes. Visitors can savour Lebanese mezze, Jamaican jerk, or Spanish tapas while enjoying folkloric shows. Daily from 1pm to 4am, the fair buzzes with live music, dance, and central stage performances presenting each nation’s heritage.

A highlight is the May 1 Nations’ Parade at 11am, starting from Plaza de España. Approximately 1,500 participants in traditional costumes will march through Fuengirola’s streets, creating a wildly diverse show. April 30, dubbed Children’s Day, offers 50 per cent off ride tickets, with kid-friendly activities like storytelling and crafts.

New this year are improved accessibility features for those with reduced mobility, themed rest areas, and cultural workshops, including Hawaiian dance and African drumming. Safety and medical services have also been doubled. Fuengirola’s Feria de los Países promises an unforgettable global journey for all ages.
