British, French and Belgian nationals confirmed as Spain wildfire victims

Three Britons and one national each from France, Belgium and Spain are among the 13 victims of one of the deadliest Spanish wildfires in recent times, authorities said on Monday after DNA tests carried out on the bodies.

La dirección del Partido Popular resta importancia al comentario del expresidente popular Mariano Rajoy sobre la selección nacional de fútbol de Francia, que ha provocado indignación en el país vecino. Rajoy escribió un artículo en El Debate sobre la selección gala en el que afirmaba que “juegan a un gran nivel” pero “sin franceses”. La portavoz del Gobierno y el ministro de Exteriores francés, Jean-Noël Barrot, han protestado de forma enérgica este lunes. Este último aseguró que “Francia no tiene color de piel”. “Cualquier afirmación en sentido contrario es una estupidez, racismo o una combinación de ambas cosas”, ha lamentado. En medio del revuelo, el portavoz del PP, Borja Sémper, ha defendido hoy al expresidente popular con el argumento de que la expresión era “sarcástica” y “sin mala intención”.
