The Cabo de Pop festival recently closed out its ninth edition after two incredible days of indie artist performances, nautical and water sports activities, and environmental initiatives, uniting nearly 7,000 people in the coastal area of Cabo de Palos. The festival is already looking ahead to its tenth anniversary, taking place in 2027, and audiences left wanting more but satisfied after another successful year.

Live indie music by Cabo de Palos’ iconic lighthouse

During the two days of the festival, residents and visitors in Cabo de Palos participated in concerts performed by emerging and popular independent artists, taking place near the idyllic and famed Cabo de Palos lighthouse. Some of the highlight performers included Mujeres, El Último Vecino, El Diablo de Shanghai, KU!, La 126, Los Chivatos, Mare Carrier, Estela Gris, the Cucaña and Desaparezca. These concerts transformed the cliffside into a memorable, open-air stage for fans of various music genres.

Water sports and coastal adventures on the shoreline

In addition to the concerts, visitors also participated in guided sessions of fun-filled, water-based activities, including scuba diving and snorkelling in the cool Mediterranean sea. Other visitors joined guided coastal routes, including paddle surfing and kayaking routes through the privileged scenic areas of Cabo de Palos’ shoreline.

Combining eco-friendly family fun with community spirit

But the beloved festival’s offerings did not end there. During these two days in August, a programme of family-friendly, environmental activities also took place, aiming to take advantage of the beautiful areas in Cabo de Palos while also promoting knowledge and respect for its natural heritage, all wrapped in a fun package of music, community, and sporting activities. Once more, the Cabo de Pop festival has proven itself to be just as sustainable as it is fun.

Ten years of Cabo de Pop: Looking ahead to a milestone anniversary

Now, organisers, including PlanOut and the Cartagena City Council, are excitedly looking forward to the landmark 10th edition of the festival, which promises to be even grander and more significant than the previous edition. Nearly 7,000 residents and visitors who came to Cabo de Palos and enjoyed the event are also already looking forward to what is certain to be another wonderful edition of Cabo de Pop.

San Javier recently celebrated the thrilling conclusion of its International Theatre, Music, and Dance Festival. For several vibrant weeks, this idyllic town in Murcia transformed into a premier cultural sanctuary, drawing thousands of theatergoers, music enthusiasts, and arts aficionados to the shores of the Mar Menor. From intense classical tragedies to groundbreaking contemporary choreography, the festival once again proved why it remains one of the most essential gatherings on the Spanish summer arts calendar.

A triumphant season on the Mediterranean stage

At the centre of the festival was the open-air Auditorio Parque Almansa venue. Under warm Mediterranean summer skies, the iconic amphitheatre hosted a succession of remarkable theatrical productions that spanned centuries of dramatic literature. Audiences were treated to performances of timeless masterpieces including Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Lope de Vega’s La Dama Boba, and Federico García Lorca’s La Barraca. The programme balanced these revered classics with daring contemporary interpretations by emerging local talents. Each performance demonstrated a deep commitment to preserving dramatic tradition while giving contemporary directors room to create.

Electrifying flamenco and headline music performances

Dance and music were just as essential to the festival’s theme, delivering some of the summer’s most emotionally resonant moments. A renowned local dancer, Rocío Molina, brought extraordinary physical expression and raw flamenco energy to the stage, captivating audiences with her bold artistry. In music, the schedule reached a powerful emotional high point during the headlining concert by the iconic Spanish singer Luz Casal. Her voice echoed through the outdoor arena to a packed house, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that highlighted the festival’s ability to feature top-tier international and national talent.

Throughout the month, free outdoor showcases brought high-calibre street theatre and modern dance directly into social community spaces. San Javier’s Plaza España became an open-air stage for thought-provoking pieces like Sísifos and Winter Speaks. Meanwhile, seaside crowds along the waterfront esplanades of Santiago de la Ribera and the bustling marina at Puerto Tomás Maestre in La Manga del Mar Menor enjoyed impromptu performance installations with the sea as their backdrop.

Bringing the performing arts to coastal streets in San Javier

Complementing the live performances, the Teatro de Invierno hosted a curated film series, called their Ciclo de Cine, offering cinephiles a thoughtful cinematic perspective that enriched the overall artistic dialogue. As production crews dismantle the sets and the town returns to its tranquil coastal routine, local organisers and attendees alike reflect on another magnificent edition of this event. The festival has not only entertained countless residents and visitors in the charming Costa Calida town, but has also reaffirmed San Javier’s proud legacy as a hub of artistic excellence and creative community spirit.

The contribution was warmly welcomed by volunteers and staff, who expressed their gratitude for the golf group’s continued community spirit.

A vital donation for local charitable services

HELP Murcia Mar Menor relies heavily on contributions from local organisations, businesses, and individuals to maintain its broad variety of support services across the Region of Murcia. The non-profit organisation works tirelessly to assist residents, expatriates, and visitors in need, offering essential aid ranging from medical equipment loans, including for wheelchairs, to support for vulnerable individuals and local charitable efforts.

A message of gratitude: Supporting vulnerable residents and visitors

Representatives from the charity highlighted how vital contributions like this are to keeping their services running, and how grateful they were for the sizable donation. “Your generosity will help us continue our work supporting local good causes and people in our community, and we really couldn’t do what we do without the incredible support of local clubs, groups, businesses and individuals,” the organisation shared in a statement. “So, from all of us at HELP Murcia Mar Menor, thank you, Club 25, Carole and Val! We really appreciate your support and everything you do to help make a difference.”
