Calpe is preparing to host a captivating cultural event that celebrates history, harmony, and identity: at the beginning of July, the Casa de Cultura’s auditorium will welcome the prestigious Compañía Escénica y Vocal del Teatro Principal de Alicante for a special performance of their production, “Mediterráneas.”

Organised by the local Department of Culture, the concert is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm on July 3 and will be completely free to attend, with availability until full capacity is reached.

Celebrating shared heritage and timeless melodies

As a programme, “Mediterráneas” is not just a musical recital; it is a profound artistic work that will highlight the value of the musical heritage in Calpe and other seaside Mediterranean communities, with a particular focus on women in these communities.

The work celebrates “melodies and songs passed down from generation to generation, incorporating new musical inspirations and lyrics specific to the places they travelled through,” according to the Calpe Town Hall.

A heartfelt tribute to the role of women

This production will also honour the pivotal role that women have historically played as the primary guardians and transmitters of cultural traditions, preserving oral histories and keeping these beautiful melodies alive through the centuries. “Mediterráneas is also a tribute to women for their role in transmitting traditions and all these songs,” added the Calpe Town Hall.

The songs being showcased in this programme have travelled across time, across bloodlines, constantly gathering more musical inspiration and regional lyrics while remaining true to their essence.

Bringing a high-calibre performance from Alicante’s principal theatre to Calpe, the event promises to be an enriching evening that connects the past and the present. Whether you are a seasoned fan of traditional folk melodies, contemporary vocal arrangements, or simply looking to experience a meaningful tribute to Mediterranean roots, “Mediterráneas” offers a unique window into the shared cultural soul of the region.

Interested visitors can arrive before 8:00pm at Calpe’s auditorium; the earlier visitors arrive, the better in order to reserve their seats.
