Estepona will host its inaugural Patchwork event on Saturday, June 6, bringing together craft enthusiasts from across the region for a day dedicated entirely to textile art. The event is organised by Lola’s Haberdashery (Merceria Lola), in collaboration with Estepona Town Hall, and will be held at the Estepona Exhibition and Congress Centre (Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos) from 12pm to 7pm. The charity bar will be run by Paula and the Bone Marrow Factory Association (Paula y la Fabrica de Medula), a local group supporting bone‑marrow donation.

What to expect at the event

Three areas will be set up inside the venue, a working zone for registered participants, an exhibition area, and a catering zone featuring the charity bar. Visitors can browse the displays and enjoy the creative atmosphere throughout the afternoon at no cost.

How to register for the Estepona Patchwork day

Participation is limited to 100 places. Registration is available by calling 649 732 491. The €50 fee includes a materials kit, lunch, gifts, and entry into prize draws. Bookings remain open until all places are filled, so early registration is recommended.

What is Patchwork? The benefits of textile arts and crafts

Patchwork, or “work with patches” is a traditional hand‑sewing technique that joins small pieces of fabric in different colours, patterns, and textures to create a larger decorative design. It is commonly used for quilts, cushions, garments, and accessories.

It’s not only creative appeal that attracts people, the craft supports sustainability by reusing leftover fabric scraps, encourages mental wellbeing through its rhythmic, meditative process, and fosters community by bringing people together around a shared hobby.

Free entry to Estepona’s textile gathering

If you are an experienced needle worker and would like to take part, or simply curious about textile arts and want to give it a go or have a browse, this event is for you to get the creative juices flowing.

Mark June 6 in your diary and head to the venue for a day of something different, creativity, community, and colour.

Those in the area of La Cala de Mijas are being invited to take part in the international Walkathon for Water on Wednesday, May 27, as the town joins a Europe-wide campaign raising awareness about the global water crisis.

Organised by the We Are Water Foundation together with resorts managed by Hilton Grand Vacations, the event is raising money and awareness about the lack of access to safe drinking water affecting millions and millions of people worldwide. The symbolic five-kilometre route reflects the horrendously long distance many children and families walk every day just to collect water.

Walkathon for Water returns after successful previous events

The Walkathon for Water has already held multiple successful walks across Europe, with the initiative now entering its fourth year. Previous events attracted much interest with more than 1,200 participants from several countries and raised funds for clean water and sanitation projects in India, Tanzania and Colombia.

The Mijas walk will take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 10am and is one of an incredible 20 walks across eight countries during the year.

Mijas charity walk gets people talking about global water shortage crisis

The aim of the events is to highlight the reality faced by more than two billion people globally who still to this day lack access to safe drinking water. Every kilometre walked during the campaign symbolises reducing the burden carried by vulnerable communities searching for water each day.

Shocking facts from the charity tells us that water shortage and bad sanitation are the biggest causes of child malnutrition and other life-threatening childhood diseases. Over 1,000 children die every day from diseases caused by lack of safe water, and worldwide more than 2 billion people do not have access to safe water.

Participants can register online with a minimum €5 donation, with proceeds supporting humanitarian water and sanitation projects. Local schools are taking part to raise the much needed funds for a very important cause.
