The building that once housed Sisu Hotel in Marbella is undergoing a complete transformation following the fire that left it unusable and accelerated its closure. The future property will reopen as a high end 5-star boutique hotel with approximately 50 rooms. with larger suites and a more exclusive guest experience from the previous capacity of around 75. There will be the welcomed addition of a spa, upgraded dining venues, and a nightlife component. The entire redevelopment if from ground up with a full overhaul, new infrastructure, plumbing, electrics and full redesign internal layout.

The man behind the €15 million investment

The man behind the project is Nao Pool Clubs’ Arnaud Albouhair, a hugely successful Marbella-based hospitality entrepreneur. With an investment of approximately €15 million, there us a serious financial commitment to bring the new site within the competitive Marbella luxury market

When can you enjoy this new venture on the coast

The final planning stages are in progress with construction due to begin shortly, with a projected reopening targeted for around 2028. The date shows the huge scale of the rebuild to completely transform the former site into something completely fresh, new and different from the original hotel. 

Moving on from the history and the clean break from the past

The Sisu Hotel had a colourful back story with of incidents before its closure from the devastating fire in 2020. The blaze broke out around 6:15am, forcing the evacuation of more than 100 guests as flames rapidly spread across the building. One 30-year-old French guest died while others were treated for smoke inhalation, some managed to escape by climbing down from balconies as firefighters battled the fire visible across Marbella. Investigations later indicated the fire may have been deliberately started, with police identifying multiple ignition points inside the hotel consistent with accelerants. Authorities also reported deficiencies in fire safety systems, including issues with internal equipment, while the property was already embroiled in years-long legal disputes over ownership, debts, and management contracts. Earlier incidents further underscored its troubled past, including a 2017 attack in which a grenade sparked a smaller fire inside the building. 

The decision not to retain the Sisu name reinforces the effort being made to reset the property’s image. By introducing a new brand, upgraded facilities, and a fully refined concept, the developers are clearly doing their utmost to position the hotel as a fresh modern, high-end destination to sit next to and meet with the current expectations in the Marbella’s luxury tourism sector.

Great news for those on the nautical scene, A refurbishment programme worth more than a whopping €3.6 million, has been approved for Benalmadena Marina to upgrade facilities and adapt the port to meet current nautical demands. Decisions were confirmed during a recent board meeting of the Puerto Deportivo, where several projects were authorised to improve much needed infrastructure and services. 

Plans include a major overhaul of the nautical centre, to enable the marina to better serve professionals and visitors. Works are looking to modernise installations and go toward ensuring the building meets present-day operational requirements.

Infrastructure and safety upgrades included

Investment will also support improvements to the port’s electrical system, for a more energy efficient and reliable power supply across the marina. Officials approved tender documents for this work during the same meeting, reinforcing the port’s focus on functionality and safety.

Bigger security measures form another part of the plan, with brand new access control barriers set to regulate entry to port areas. These additions are hoping to strengthen monitoring and improve the overall management of the facilities.

Breakwater project to strengthen protection

Coastal defence is another area included in the project. A contract has been awarded to draft a project for containment and breakwater works near the port entrance. This initiative aims to protect the marina from adverse weather conditions and improve operational resilience.

Broader management and financial steps

Board discussions went onto construction plans, covering internal organisational matters and financial oversight. Preparation of the 2025 annual accounts and adjustments to accounting balances were also addressed, reflecting ongoing administrative management of the marina. 

The Benalmadena Marina is one of the busiest, well loved and important on the Andalusian coast, because of its beautiful design and interior architecture, the number of berths and the wide range of leisure and entertainment options it offers.
