Marbella is getting ready for one of the most important weeks in its annual calendar, the Feria of San Bernabé, the patron Saint of our City. If you venture into town, as of the 8th June until the 14th, you will really see what Marbella is all about: Andalusian tradition, music, food and festivities, not to mention the wonderous, colourful display of traditional Spanish flamenco dresses.
The fair is split into two, giving visitors the chance to enjoy both the cultural heart of Marbella and the lively carnival, fun-fair atmosphere for the evenings.
During the day, the “Feria de Día” focus point is the Parque de la Alameda and Avenida del Mar. They will be lined with traditional “casetas”, stalls; be brave and wedge your way to the front and try the tapas and fair food: yummy!
There will be non stop music, flamenco dancing and grandparents to grandchildren coming together to eat, drink and truly make merry.
Entry is free, making it easy to simply wander through, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the celebrations at your own pace,
The “Feria de Noche” comes alive at the Recinto Ferial with fairground rides, live concerts, games and plenty of entertainment continuing into the early hours. The biggest day of the week is June 11th, San Bernabé’s official feast day, starring traditional parades and a fireworks display.
Visitors don’t need to wear traditional dress, although flamenco outfits and flowers in the hair are great ways of joining in the festive spirit. If you want to get a flamenco dress cheaply, check out the charity shops.
Parking in the centre can be difficult, so taxis and public transport are highly recommended.
