Charity Walk & Talk raising funds for PAWS-PATAS & MACS Saturday 16th May, Mojacar

Published

on

Eight businesses in the Mojacar area have come together to organise a 5K charity walk, to raise funds for two great causes. They are inviting local residents and businesses to join them for a 5K stroll along the paseo on Saturday, May 16, with the goal of raising over €2,000 for PAWS-PATAS & MACS.

Walkers should meet at Cruz Roja Mojacar (P.º del Mediterráneo, 20, Mojacar,) at 10.30am to begin, walking to the end of the seafront promenade and then back to Tito’s Beach Bar. Walkers are expected to arrive at Tito’s around midday, for a well-deserved drink and tapas.

Participants are asked for a donation to the charities to join the walk. Tickets cost €10 for adults, 5€ for under 16s and are free for under 2s. The ticket price includes water, a goodie bag and a drink and tapa at Tito’s. Funds raised will be split between animal shelter Paws-Patas and cancer charity MACS.

Tickets are being sold at all of the participating businesses and in the charities, or you can also register by emailing info@mylawyerinspain.com and pay on the day. (See below for participating businesses and charities)

Alex Radford from My Lawyer in Spain originally came up with the idea as a way for their new office in Mojacar to engage with the local community and support good causes. But he knew that involving other businesses would be critical to the event’s success, and is delighted with the support they’ve received.

We always try to give back to local charities in the areas where we are based, and organising events which bring the community together and raise money is something we’re very passionate about.

I’ve attended similar Walk & Talk events and really liked the mix of community and business networking. I thought it would be a good fit for Mojácar, so suggested the idea to the team and they’ve really ran with it. The first step was to find other similarly community-minded businesses and we were overwhelmed with the response!

Tim Taplin Financial Services, Currencies Direct, Macenas Resort, Spanish Property Choice, Ibex Insurance, Coastal Properties, Indalo Transport and Storage and Tito’s Beach Bar were all really keen to get involved and have been working hard to spread the word and sell tickets. We’d like to thank them for their commitment and support.

Our aim is to have at least 100 participants, and raise more than €2,000 for these great causes and we welcome you to come and join us! It’s a great way to combine exercise, charity fundraising, community connection, getting to know local businesses and networking. Everyone is welcome!

Supporting PAWS-PATAS & MACS

Macs is a fully registered Spanish Charity serving patients, survivors and carers from Almeria to Velez Rubio. They are dedicated to providing compassionate support and resources for those facing life’s challenges. Their mission is to empower individuals to navigate challenges with resilience and find a path toward healing and well-being.

Paws-Patas is an animal welfare group and animal shelter located between Los Gallardos and Turre, rescuing animals and finding them new forever homes.

Funds raised from this event will be split equally between these two excellent causes.

Mojacar steps up fight against gender violence

Published

Mojacar is taking steps to better protect victims of gender violence, improving police response, integrating new systems and updating protocols in collaboration with the Guardia Civil.

Local officials, including the heads of the Local Mojacar police force and leaders of the Guardia Civil attended a security meeting recently. There they discussed modernisation and joint intervention methods that could protect victims and prevent gender violence crimes.

Improved coordination between police forces

Officials highlighted that closer coordination between the Local Police and the Guardia Civil is central to this strategy. Updated protocols are being developed to improve how both forces share information, respond to incidents and manage ongoing cases. The aim is to ensure quicker action and more consistent protection for victims across all stages of the process.

Training and procedural updates were also discussed as part of efforts to improve response times and ensure officers are better equipped to handle sensitive situations involving domestic and gender-based violence.

Integration of the VioGen system

One such method included the integration of the VioGen system, a national monitoring tool used across Spain to assess and manage cases of gender violence. The system enables police forces and security agencies to share information in real time, evaluate risk levels and coordinate protection measures for victims depending on the severity of each case.

VioGen classifies risk and helps determine the level of surveillance or protective action required, ranging from periodic checks to more intensive monitoring in high-risk situations. By strengthening its use locally, Mojacar aims to improve early detection of risk and ensure more effective preventative action.

Focus on prevention and victim protection

The initiative reflects a wider commitment to both prevention and victim support. By improving communication between agencies and using shared systems more effectively, local authorities hope to reduce repeat incidents and increase trust in reporting mechanisms.

Gender violence remains a serious issue in Spain, with over 30,000 victims reported annually. Local leaders stressed that addressing it requires sustained cooperation, strong institutional coordination and a continued focus on protecting victims at every stage of intervention.
