You book the flights, compare hotel prices and spend hours planning what to see once you arrive. But there’s one thing many travellers forget to check before heading abroad: the card sitting in their wallet.
If you pay with Visa, you could already have access to discounts, fast-track entry and exclusive experiences in some of Europe’s most popular destinations without signing up for another membership.
Visa has launched Visa Destinations, a new platform bringing together travel offers, local recommendations and cardholder benefits in cities including London, Paris and several destinations across Italy. The idea is to help travellers discover experiences they might otherwise miss while saving money along the way.
Whether you’re planning a weekend city break or a longer European holiday, it could be worth checking what your card already includes before spending extra on tickets or tours.
From skipping queues in Paris to discounts in London
Many travel perks only become useful once you’ve already arrived.
Take Paris, where eligible Visa cardholders can use a fast-track entrance at the Louvre Museum for themselves and up to three guests, helping avoid some of the longest queues in the French capital.
In London, the benefits focus on sightseeing and food.
Visitors can receive 15 per cent off standard tickets for the London Eye, making one of the city’s best-known attractions a little more affordable.
Food lovers can also claim selected dining experiences, including a complimentary Sketch Book at the three-Michelin-starred Sketch restaurant in Mayfair for qualifying guests.
Rather than searching dozens of different websites for offers, Visa says the platform brings them together in one place.
Italy’s experiences go beyond the usual tourist trail
Italy is another destination where the platform is putting the emphasis on experiences rather than simple discounts.
Travellers can save on guided visits to some of the country’s best-known landmarks, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper in Milan, the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, and the underground archaeological sites beneath Naples.
For holders of Visa Infinite cards, there’s also access to a private sidecar tour of Rome with hotel pick-up and drop-off included, allowing visitors to customise the itinerary instead of following a fixed route.
It’s the sort of experience many tourists wouldn’t normally discover while planning a trip themselves.
Should you check before your next holiday?
The answer is probably yes. Many people assume travel perks only come with premium airline loyalty schemes or luxury credit cards.
In reality, some Visa cardholders may already qualify for benefits simply because of the type of card issued by their bank.
Not every Visa card includes every offer, and eligibility depends on both the country where the card was issued and the card category. That’s why it’s worth checking before you travel rather than after you’ve booked everything separately.
Visa says Visa Destinations is currently available in 9 destinations, with more locations expected to be added during 2026.
For frequent travellers, the platform won’t replace careful planning. But if it saves you waiting in line at one attraction, knocks money off a sightseeing ticket or introduces you to an experience you wouldn’t otherwise have found, it’s another reminder that sometimes the best travel extras are already sitting in your wallet.
