Former Williams F1 driver Logan Sargeant has taken to social media to share heartwarming pictures from his proposal to long-term girlfriend Riley Whittall.

The ex-F1 star announced the couple’s engagement via Instagram earlier this week in a joint post that showed him getting down on one knee to pop the question.

Alongside the announcement was a slideshow of snaps that painted a detailed picture of the special day with a caption that read: “Forever with my best friend!!!!”

In the pictures, Sargeant and Whittall stood in the middle of a gorgeous white and cream flower arrangement before posing on the beach for a loved-up photoshoot at the Montage Laguna Beach resort.

Stars of the motor racing world flooded the comments with well wishes, with former F3 team-mate and McLaren star Oscar Piastri writing below the post: “Congrats!”

The American driver’s former Williams team-mate and fellow newly-engaged star Alex Albon also showed his support for the couple, simply commenting three red love hearts.

What has Logan Sargeant been up to since leaving F1?

Sargeant made his F1 debut with the Grove-based squad in 2023, but was dropped midway through the following year’s campaign after a string of poor performances.

Williams team principal James Vowles had to take the tough decision to replace the American with Argentine driver Franco Colapinto until ex-Ferrari star Carlos Sainz joined the team in 2025.

Having entered into 36 grands prix before his F1 career was cut short, Sargeant picked up just a single point and suffered nine DNFs.

After leaving F1, Sargeant took a break from professional racing activities until making the switch to endurance racing late last year.

The 25-year-old joined PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for the final LMP2 rounds of the IMSA SportsCar Championship and now competes in the LMGT3 class of the FIA’s World Endurance Championship (WEC).

At the start of 2026, the ex-Williams F1 star made a surprise appearance at the Ford season launch, ahead of the American manufacturer’s debut season in F1 working alongside Red Bull on their new power unit project.

As well as officially launching the Red Bull F1 Ford Powertrains project at the event in Detroit, Sargeant shared that alongside a return to IMSA for 2026, he had also accepted the role of factory driver for Ford Racing’s Hypercar entry.

The American racer is set to join Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx as part of the lineup when Ford make their return to endurance racing in 2027.

Young Alpine star Franco Colapinto has given a full-throated defence of controversial team executive Flavio Briatore.

The flamboyant Italian is famously hyper-competitive, with a ruthless streak a mile wide, but Colapinto insisted in a recent interview that teams like Alpine ‘need’ a figure like Briatore if they’re to compete with the big boys.

The 23-year-old told Motorsport.com a story from earlier in the season at the Canadian Grand Prix to demonstrate Briatore’s relentless drive for more, revealing that the team’s ‘executive advisor’ [translation: team principal in all but name] was ‘not happy at all’ after the team picked up a good points haul for finishing sixth and eighth.

Colapinto went on to say that Briatore’s style of putting pressure on his team even when things are going well is ‘a way of succeeding in F1’, adding that he believes he has a similar mentality to the ‘competitive animal’ running his team.

“I believe in his process,” the Argentine said. “You have to understand him. But I think to succeed in F1 and to achieve the goal that every midfield team has – to catch Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren – you need someone like Flavio.”

He continued: “We finished P6 and P8 in Canada, those were amazing points for the team, but after the race Flavio was not happy at all and kept pushing the team. He was almost the most unhappy person within the whole team.

“That was because of how far off Ferrari we were compared to Miami. He wanted to understand why that was. Everyone was really happy with the points, but he was like, no no, I want more. I don’t like where we are and Racing Bulls is too close to us as well. They are closer than they were in Miami, so why is that happening? I want answers and I want to improve more.”

“To put that pressure on the team, even when things go right, it’s his way of leading the team. And in my personal view, it’s a way of succeeding in F1 and catching the top teams.

“Flavio is a competitive animal. He only came back to Formula 1 to win and I really appreciate that because I’m the same.”

Reigning F1 champion Lando Norris has opened up on his favourite racing series, admitting that he wants to try one of them out.

Norris was out in the US at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (home of the Indy 500) recently, playing some golf and visiting the track’s museum while also filming a short interview with his McLaren team.

The Brit went into detail on which racing series he most enjoys watching as a fan – of course, he hasn’t watched F1 as a fan since 2018, he’s been too busy driving in it – in the video titled ‘Life Away From F1‘.

Norris namechecked MotoGP (Liberty Media, who own the motorbike series as well as F1, will be delighted) and rallying as his big two to watch as a fan, but admitted that if there’s wheels and a motor involved, he’s usually on board.

Norris: I loved MotoGP before F1

He explained: “As a sporting fan, the series I enjoy watching the most is MotoGP. I’ve loved motorbikes and MotoGP since I was a kid, like I loved MotoGP before I ever even watched Formula 1. So deep down I kind of always have that love for motorbikes.

“But honestly, as a racing fan, I enjoy everything. Whether it’s the Endurance series, whether it’s the GTs, Le Mans, Indy, Formula E, I generally watch every series every single weekend.

“Rally! Actually, rally is one of the things I want to do the most, and I really, really love. Mr Solberg’s over there doing his thing.

“So yeah, I like to watch rally probably the most, in a way, because I’m most new to that world. So MotoGP and rally are my two favourite things at the minute.”

A young Mercedes driver and former F2 champion has landed himself a role in all-electric racing series Formula E.

Theo Pourchaire won the 2023 F2 championship, an achievement which led him to be linked with many F1 seats while he was still in his 20s.

But the 2024 F1 grid remarkably saw the same 20 drivers that had finished the 2023 season maintaining their position for 2024, which meant that Pourchaire had to make do with a reserve driver role with Hinwil-based outfit Sauber (now Audi), while also enjoying some sporadic appearances in IndyCar.

Heading into 2025, Pourchaire saw the likes of Oliver Bearman, Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar and Gabriel Bortoleto all being handed full-time opportunities at various teams on the F1 grid, but still the 2023 F2 champion had to settle for a reserve driver role.

Ahead of 2026, he was even dropped from that position, and is now a development driver for Mercedes.

Pourchaire has made three appearances in F1 practice sessions over the years, although they all came across the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Now, with a seat in F1 looking further away than ever, 22-year-old Pourchaire has made a different career move, nailing down a full-time drive in Formula E.

Pourchaire gets Formula E opportunity

It has been announced that Pourchaire will be joining the Opel GSE Formula E team for the 2026/27 season, which starts in December.

The Opel GSE team are the newest addition to the Formula E grid, and are delighted to have a driver of Pourchaire’s pedigree on their team, as the championship prepares to welcome its GEN4 era.

Pourchaire said of his latest career move: “It feels great to be joining the Opel GSE Formula E Team and the Opel family – an iconic brand with a rich racing history which is now making a name for itself in the World Championship.

“It’s the next step in my career and the biggest single-seater opportunity I’ve had so far. The new GEN4 generation is a perfect fit for my transition from Formula 2: more power, all-wheel drive and incredible acceleration – that’s exactly the kind of car I love. I want to learn, continue developing further and I will give my all from day one to ensure Opel succeed.”
