Live music, DJs, food trucks and small market stalls are amongst the fun, all perfect for welcoming families, friends and animal lovers. The stunning setting and time of the event will provide the gorgeous Andalucian sunset views, and most importantly the opportunity to meet some of the donkeys.

Guests will also be able to learn about the stories behind the animals and the work involved in their recovery, connecting the dots between the charity and the global awareness day.

World donkey day history

World Donkey Day, marked every year on May 8, promotes better care and recognition for donkeys across the globe. Created in 2010 by livestock expert Abdul Raziq Kakar, the day draws much needed attention to animals widely used in transport and agriculture, often in demanding and horrific conditions.

Awareness campaigns and charity events work tirelessly to encourage humane treatment while supporting organisations that rescue and rehabilitate donkeys.

Charity work supports rescue and rehabilitation

The ongoing daily work at Donkey Dreamland focuses on rescuing neglected donkeys and providing important medical care, shelter and long-term support. Educational visits and interactive experiences and essential to help raise awareness while funding essential services such as feeding and veterinary treatment.

Manilva Launches English-Language TV

Published

manilva-launches-english-language-tv

Manilva has introduced an English-language version of its municipal television service in a move designed to connect more effectively with its large international population.

RTV Manilva, the town’s public broadcaster, now offers content in English under the name “RTV Manilva in English”. This broad minded initiative aims to ensure that local news and updates are accessible to residents who do not speak Spanish fluently.

Responding to a multicultural population

A considerably large proportion of Manilva’s population are of foreign residents, many of whom are English speakers. Local authorities have now adapted their communication strategy to reflect the reality of this demographic, ensuring that municipal information reaches a wider audience.

The introduction of English-language programming proves ongoing efforts to modernise local media and make it more inclusive for everyone. Access to municipal news, events and announcements is hoping to improve for those previously facing language barriers.

Strengthening integration and community ties

Town officials see the project as a way to build and strengthen links with long-established international residents. Many foreign nationals have lived in the area for decades and play an active role in daily life.

Greater access to information may help these residents feel more included and connected to local affairs, encouraging participation in community activities and civic matters that they may have before shied away from due to the language barrier.

Promoting visibility of English-speaking residents

Programming will not only deliver news but also provide insight into the lives, businesses and interests of the English-speaking community. This approach aims to reflect the diversity of Manilva and at the same time broaden the channel’s reach.

Expansion into bilingual broadcasting is a clever and practical step towards more inclusive communication. Local media is forever adapting to social changes, ensuring all residents remain informed and engaged with life in Manilva. You can also follow the station on social media platforms, Radio Television Manilva in English.

Torremolinos Residents Clash Over Trees

torremolinos-residents-clash-over-trees

An online argument has erupted after trees are cut back in Torremolinos with residents calling the trees ‘butchered’. The heated social media argument began after trees at Comunidad Eurosol Phase 2 near La Carihuela were cut back to trunks and main branches.

Photos shared online quickly drew strong reactions, with some commenters calling the pruning excessive and badly timed just before hotter weather arrives, some describing the look as ‘shocking’, ‘ruined’ and ‘dead’. Others defended the work, saying the trees will regrow rapidly and the cutting was necessary for safety and maintenance.

Debate spread fast as locals traded views over whether the trees had been ruined or responsibly managed.

The summer shade has been lost

Several riled up residents said the heavy pruning had removed much-needed shade ahead of summer, when temperatures rise sharply. Mature trees are highly valued in apartment communities where they cool walkways, terraces and shared outdoor areas. Others questioned why such drastic action was carried out in spring rather than during winter. Some commenters described the appearance of the trees as shocking and accused those responsible of going too far.

The supporters insisted the hard pruning is common and necessary in Southern Spain

Not everyone agreed with the criticism. Other residents said this type of pruning is common in Andalusia, where warm weather and long growing seasons can lead to fast regrowth.

Supporters explained that certain species are regularly pollarded or cut back hard to control height, reduce heavy branches and keep trees clear of buildings, roads and power lines.

Many argued the trees would soon return fuller and healthier once fresh growth begins.

Warm temperatures, long growing seasons and irrigation can produce vigorous regrowth each year. Without regular control, crowns can become oversized, heavy or unstable.

Marbella storm damage used as ammunition

Marbella was used as an example, where strong winds and storms have previously brought down branches and damaged parked cars.

Those residents argued that complaints often come when trees are cut, but criticism also follows when overgrown canopies fail during bad weather.

Tree experts note that branch failure can happen for several reasons, including age, disease, weak structure and weather conditions, though maintenance can reduce some risks.

The argument continues

Fresh leaves are expected in coming weeks, but the online argument in Torremolinos is already in full growth.
