Mijas Pueblo’s new festival celebrates beer and meat, with added bonus football finale

on

Mijas Pueblo is introducing a brand-new addition to the summer, focusing entirely on three Spanish staples, craft beer, Iberian ham, and traditional cured meats. Running from Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, the town’s first gastronomic event is bringing you the Festival de la Cerveza Artesanal, el Jamon y la Chacina de Mijas, (Artisan Beer, Ham, and Cured Meats Festival of Mijas).

Local businesses to take over the square

Plaza Virgen de la Peña will host around 20 specialised stalls entirely run by independent businesses from the town. Organised hand in hand with the local traders’ association (ACIM), the setup ensures visitors can skip corporate lagers and sample a range of different regional microbrews paired with delicious authentic charcuterie sliced on-site.

Late night music and performances

Stalls open daily from 6pm, allowing visitors to have an afternoon siesta and avoid the midday sun. Guests will have plenty of time to sample the delights on offer before headlining acts hit the stage later in the evening. The entertainment is spread across the three nights, offering a different vibe for each session.

Friday, July, 17 – live music from Ziryab at 10:30pm
Saturday, July 18 – pop and rock performance by Miranda at 10:30pm
Sunday, July, 19 – traditional flamenco dancing with Francis Leon at 11pm

Live World Cup final in the plaza

Football fans need not worry about choosing between the new food stall experience and the big game on Sunday night. Local authorities have confirmed that a giant screen will be set up directly inside the main square. Guests can catch every minute of the FIFA World Cup Final live, adding a bonus public viewing atmosphere to the final evening of the event.

Admission to the square is completely free all weekend, meaning guests only pay for the individual plates and drinks they purchase from local vendors. For more information visit the Mijas Town Hall website.
