Famed local Cartagena band, Arde Bogotá, has transformed the tunnels of El Espalmador into the location for its new music video, turning the old submarine tunnels into a place worthy of attention and piquing the interest of those who follow the band.

An eighties-inspired backdrop for a brand-new single

The tunnels, which many locals will recognise, feature prominently in Arde Bogotá’s new music video, El club de la gente sola (“The Club of Lonely People). The music video, which was released at the tail end of August, is the third single from the band’s upcoming album, Manufacturas del club de la gente sola (“Manufacturing of the Club of Lonely People”). The album is scheduled to be released on October 2.

The video has transformed the tunnels of El Espalmador into a setting with a distinct aesthetic inspired by the eighties, in keeping with previous music videos made by the band.

Showcasing Cartagena’s naval heritage to a global audience

The music video for the song was filmed entirely in the municipality, and puts one of the most unique naval heritage sites Cartagena has to offer in the spotlight. The band members have a history of wanting to showcase the city and municipality to their international audiences. The video was made with support from the Cartagena Film Office, which also facilitated the access and use of these valuable tunnels.

Arde Bogotá’s national and international reach will help to showcase a “different, surprising, and still unknown Cartagena” to many people, according to the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo.

Plans to turn secret naval infrastructure into cultural landmarks

The Cartagena City Council has also announced plans to recover the tunnels and link them to the future Tonina submarine museum project, putting them in the spotlight for their value to the historical heritage of the city. Arde Bogotá has, once more, showcased another famed space in Cartagena and highlighted its future recovery and incorporation into the tourist offerings of this historically significant city.

“Cartagena has places that don’t exist in any other city, and the El Espalmador tunnels are one of them. Our goal is to recover these spaces, give them a new life, and ensure they become part of Cartagena’s cultural and tourist landscape for years to come,” Mayor Arroyo said.

A growing hub for international film and television projects

This music video is also an effort by the Cartagena Film Office to attract more audiovisual productions to the municipality. More and more, the Region of Murcia is becoming a location of choice for audiovisual producers, creating everything from commercials to Netflix series.

This is not the first time Arde Bogotá has filmed in a significant location in the municipality. Earlier this year, the band once more put Cartagena heritage in the spotlight for the filming of their music video, Instrucciones, the first single of their long-awaited third album. The video was filmed in the local Navy optics workshop located in Los Barreros. The building is a multi-storey tower that was previously used for submarine periscope testing, and is now one of the most recognisable industrial spaces in the urban landscape of the city.

Mazarron blood drive helps tackle critical hospital shortages across Murcia

Residents and visitors in Mazarron showed true local spirit and solidarity at the end of August, as the Centro de Salud played host to a vital blood donation drive organised by the Regional Hemodonation Centre of Murcia. Between 5:30pm and 9:30pm on Friday, August 28, generous locals filed through the doors of the medical centre, rolling up their sleeves for a cause that will save countless lives across the Region of Murcia.

Mazarron residents answer an urgent call to replenish regional reserves

The timing of the session proved critical. Regional health authorities had issued an urgent appeal in the days leading up to the event due to a worryingly sharp drop in blood reserves across hospital blood banks, particularly affecting both A-positive and A-negative supplies. The evening drive offered an accessible opportunity for the community to help replenish those dwindling stocks ahead of the busy autumn period.

Healthcare professionals on-site managed a steady stream of donors throughout the four-hour session, welcoming both veteran contributors and first-timers who arrived equipped with their national identity cards.

Encouraging future donors and celebrating major Murcia milestones

In addition to standard blood contributions, the drive placed a strong emphasis on future health solutions. Attendees aged between 18 and 40 were invited to register as potential bone marrow donors, a crucial initiative integrated into the Regional Hemodonation Centre’s ongoing awareness campaign.

This year, the Region of Murcia reached an incredible milestone when it comes to bone marrow donations: more than 2,100 residents of Murcia have registered as new donors, doubling the figures from previous years. With the new figures, more than 30,000 people in total are now registered in the region, marking it as one of the autonomous communities with the highest number of donors, proportionally to the population.

Mobilising local communities for regional healthcare

The successful turnout in Mazarron forms part of a wider regional effort, with mobile medical units continuously visiting municipalities throughout Murcia to ensure life-saving medical procedures, routine surgeries, and emergency treatments. Local health coordinators expressed deep gratitude to everyone who took the time to donate blood, proving once again that small community actions can make a massive difference to regional healthcare.

Essential guidelines and requirements for potential donors: How to donate blood in Murcia

For those interested in donating blood, the requirements are simple: participants must be between 18 and 65 years old; they must weigh at least 50 kgs; they must be in good general health, not suffering from anaemia, and feeling well on the day; men can donate up to 4 times per year, whereas women can donate up to 3 times per year, with a minimum 2-month gap between donations; participants must eat a light meal beforehand; and finally, they must bring a photo ID to the clinic or mobile donation centre.

There are various blood donation centres available throughout the Region of Murcia; those who want to donate can contact local health centres and hospitals to find the nearest centre. The entire process takes a maximum of 20 minutes, and can save up to three lives.

The aroma of crispy bacon and freshly brewed coffee once again swept through the pine grove of Roda at the end of August, marking another resounding success for the village’s traditional English breakfast. More than 400 locals, visitors, and international residents gathered under the shade from early in the morning of Thursday, August 27, to enjoy a summer classic that bridges cultural divides through mouth-watering food.

A delicious, decade-long tradition born from community integration

What began fourteen years ago as a thoughtful initiative to welcome the growing British community has evolved into an anticipated highlight of the town’s International Day celebrations. Local representative Eulogio Sánchez highlighted how this spirit of integration remains stronger than ever, driven by a dedicated team of British and Irish volunteers. Working from the crack of dawn, the organisers donned their aprons to cook and serve an authentic fry-up, complete with fried eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, and baked beans, all for just €2.50 per plate.

Spanish locals and international visitors join the local Brits for a morning feast

An increasing number of Spanish residents also join the feast each year to savour the hearty dish. Local officials praised the festivity committee and foreign volunteers for their hard work, noting that the gathering serves as clear evidence of the harmony and integration among Roda’s diverse cultures.

A weekend packed with music, food, and tradition

The International Day celebrations continued well into the evening with a lively community dinner that saw roughly 1,000 grilled burgers served alongside live music. The festive atmosphere set the stage for the following, action-packed weekend, featuring a Friday night of barbecue and rumba rhythms, as well as children’s activities, a traditional street party, and late-night migas The festivities concluded on Sunday, August 30 with a morning sardine roast and the solemn mass and procession honouring the patron saint at 8:30pm.

Once again, Roda’s pine grove proved that good food and community spirit remain the ultimate recipe for a truly united summer celebration.
