‘Junts argued that the proposals unfairly lumped small landlords who rely on rental income together with profit-driven real-estate companies, and could have “negative and irreversible” effects.’ This is perhaps the most intelligent argument I have heard yet in this debate. Single property landlords cannot rent their properties if that cannot cover the costs associated with the property. If you constrain their ability to earn an economic rent without constraining the costs that they face in doing so then they will potentially be bankrupted by the governments’ proposals. Look first to the vulture funds gouging their tenants and the ridiculous numbers of properties that they own and keep empty.
