British lads take on running the length of Spain in five-day challenge for charity

A group of British friends are gearing up for an extraordinary endurance challenge – running the entire length of Spain in under a week – all in the name of charity.

The ambitious team plans to cover around 1,400 kilometres from northern Galicia to the southern tip of Tarifa at the beginning of May, pushing their bodies to the limit in a non-stop relay that will test both physical and mental resilience.

A relentless race across Spain

This is no ordinary run. Instead of tackling the route together, the group will operate as a continuous relay, with one runner on the move at all times while the others manage logistics, navigation and recovery.

Living out of a campervan, they’ll rotate shifts with minimal rest – aiming to complete the challenge in just five to six days. That means each participant will clock up the equivalent of a marathon daily, covering roughly 35 to 40 kilometres per day.

The route itself is as demanding as the distance. From rugged northern terrain to southern coastal roads, the lads will face constantly changing conditions with little margin for error.

If one runner struggles, the relay must continue – adding pressure to an already intense feat.

More than just a physical challenge

Despite the scale of the challenge, the group insists this isn’t about athletic glory.

They describe themselves as ordinary mates, not professional athletes, united by a shared goal: raising awareness and funds for causes that have deeply impacted their lives.

All money raised will be split between three charities: Alzheimer’s Society, Crohn’s & Colitis UK, and Target Ovarian Cancer.

Each organisation represents a personal connection for the runners, with family members and loved ones affected by the conditions.

Alzheimer’s, in particular, has touched close to home, highlighting the devastating impact the disease has not just on patients but entire families. Meanwhile, Crohn’s disease and ovarian cancer stories within the group have further driven their determination to make a difference.

Personal stories driving the mission

Behind the miles and muscle fatigue lies something far more powerful: personal motivation.

One runner’s father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2024, while another’s close relative has battled ovarian cancer multiple times. Another member has seen the effects of Crohn’s disease on a sibling from a young age.

These experiences have transformed the challenge from a sporting feat into a deeply emotional mission.

The group hopes their journey will not only raise funds but also shine a light on diseases that affect thousands of families across the UK and beyond.

How you can support the challenge

The team is calling on the public to get behind their efforts: whether through donations, sharing their story, or following their journey online.

They’ve launched a fundraising page, with every contribution – big or small – going directly to the chosen charities.

Supporters will also be able to track their progress as they make their way down the country, offering a unique opportunity to follow one of the most demanding charity challenges to hit Spain this year.

As the countdown begins, one thing is clear: this is more than just a run. It’s a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when friendship, resilience and purpose come together – one kilometre at a time.
