Calpe plans €600,000 road upgrade for three residential areas

on

Calpe is preparing to invest almost €600,000 in improving roads across three residential areas, with a major resurfacing project planned for Empedrola, Cometa and Canuta.

Roads set for major improvements

The Calpe Town Hall is putting a project worth €596,791.23 out to tender, covering roads in Empedrola I and II, Cometa III and Canuta.

The works are expected to take around three months once the contract has been awarded.

The project has been drawn up to address the deteriorating condition of several roads in the residential areas. Years of use have left some sections with potholes, uneven surfaces, subsidence and other damage.

In some places, tree roots close to the roads have also contributed to the deterioration and deformation of the pavement.

The planned work will therefore involve more than simply laying fresh asphalt, with the aim of dealing with some of the underlying problems affecting the roads.

Drainage and markings included

Drainage is also included in the project, with damaged or affected sections of the drainage system due to be repaired or replaced where necessary.

The road levels will also be adjusted as part of the works, helping to create a more consistent and even surface.

Once the resurfacing has been completed, road markings will be repainted across the areas included in the project.

The markings will help restore clear traffic guidance for motorists using the upgraded roads and form part of the final stage of the improvement works.

Part of wider Calpe investment

The latest project forms part of Calpe’s wider investment in improving road infrastructure across the municipality.

The town has been carrying out resurfacing projects in residential developments and other areas where roads have suffered from prolonged wear and deterioration.

With this latest scheme, the municipality’s investment in road resurfacing projects in recent years will reach around €2.5 million.

For residents in Empedrola, Cometa and Canuta, the planned works should bring improvements to roads used daily by local households, visitors and other motorists.

The project must now go through the tendering process before a contractor can be appointed and the work can begin.

Once construction starts, the planned completion period is approximately three months.
