As summer arrives on the Costa Blanca, Calpe’s Local Police force is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year, with the town expecting its population to swell to more than 140,000 people during the peak holiday season.
The seasonal influx places significant pressure on local services, particularly policing, traffic management and public safety. In response, senior police officers recently met with Mayor Juan Antonio Sánchez and Public Safety Councillor Guillermo Sendra to finalise plans for the months ahead.
Extra officers and resources for the summer season
According to the town hall, police staffing levels will be strengthened over the coming weeks to cope with the sharp increase in visitors. The force will focus on maintaining security in key tourist areas, including beaches, promenades, residential developments and the town centre.
Illegal street trading will also be a priority, alongside increased patrols in areas that attract the largest crowds during the holiday season. Authorities say the aim is to maintain the high level of public safety that residents and visitors expect during the busiest months of the year.
New patrol boat and motorcycle fleet
The summer plan includes several new operational measures. A semi-rigid police boat will be deployed for maritime surveillance, allowing officers to monitor Calpe’s coastline and respond more quickly to incidents at sea.
Police officers on bicycles will also patrol the seafront promenades, while four new motorcycles are being added to the fleet to improve mobility and response times across the municipality.
The preparations come as Calpe enters a packed summer calendar featuring beach activities, festivals, concerts and major public events that attract visitors from across Spain and abroad.
Keeping Calpe safe during its busiest months
Councillor Guillermo Sendra said the dramatic increase in population during summer requires extensive planning and coordination to ensure security standards remain high. Local authorities believe the combination of extra personnel, enhanced surveillance and additional equipment will help the town manage another busy tourist season safely and efficiently.
For residents and visitors alike, the message is clear: Calpe is getting ready for summer, and local police are preparing well in advance for the crowds that make the resort one of the Costa Blanca’s most popular destinations.
