Circus meets K-pop in Velez-Malaga: Adrenalina 2.0 brings international performers to the Axarquia

Published

on

Velez-Malaga is hosting a spectacular circus production combining death-defying stunts, music and K-pop for families across the Axarquia.

Berlin Zirkus has put up its big top at the Recinto Ferial in Velez for Adrenalina 2.0, which runs all the way until Sunday, November 22. Organisers describe it as an international production, with Velez-Malaga its only stop in the Axarquia.

The town regularly attracts visitors with its family entertainment programme, including events such as its cultural celebrations and activities in Velez-Malaga.

Death wheel, motorbikes and K-pop

Audiences can expect traditional circus acts and jaw-dropping modern stage effects. The programme includes heady performances on the death wheel, a steel pendulum measuring more than 12 metres, contortionists and motorbike-stunt acts, as well as magic and comedy.

A major feature is a tribute to K-pop, the South Korean music phenomenon with an international following. Choreographed routines, music and visual effects bring the pop-inspired segment into the circus setting, creating a show for children and adults.

Berlin Zirkus says the production has visited major cities across Andalucia, attracting strong audiences. The company has German roots and has toured Spain for more than 35 years, presenting new productions while keeping traditional circus entertainment at their heart.

Show times and tickets

Performances take place on Thursdays and Fridays at 6pm, Saturdays at 5pm and 7.30pm, and Sundays at noon and 6pm.

Advance tickets are available through the official Berlin Zirkus website, with discounts advertised for online bookings. Alternatively, visitors can buy Adrenalina 2.0 tickets in Velez-Malaga.

The box office opens one hour before each performance. Children’s tickets include face painting, with families invited to arrive an hour before the show to enjoy the activity.

Free parking is available at the Recinto Ferial, making the production an accessible family outing for residents and visitors looking for more events and activities across the Axarquia.

Village pride: Six Axarquia pueblos compete for 2027 title of best village

Published

Six villages in Malaga’s Axarquia region are hoping to win a prestigious regional tourism title, but their appeal goes beyond whitewashed houses and mountain views. From handmade street decorations to unusual Easter traditions, local residents are helping to keep their communities looking special, in a kind of best garden competition attitude.

Alfarnate, Canillas de Aceituno, Comares, Competa, El Borge and Moclinejo are among 57 Andalucian candidates competing for the title of Pueblo Mágico de Andalucía 2027 (Magical Village of Andalusia). The winner will be decided by public vote, with voting open until November 13.

Residents bring their villages to life

Some of the most charming improvements come from residents themselves, rather than large tourism budgets or expensive council projects.

In Competa, for example, local women have used their creative skills to decorate the Plazoleta with colourful crochet and handmade pieces, adding a distinctive touch to the traditional whitewashed surroundings. Their work has already attracted attention in the village, with the council encouraging more people to get involved in similar creative workshops. Read more about Competa’s colourful street decorations.

In Canillas de Aceituno, five local women have developed an imaginative recycling project that turns discarded plastic bottles and other household materials into Christmas decorations. Their creations have included trees, angels, flowers and garlands, with residents helping to collect the materials. What began as a small project has grown into a village tradition, giving the streets a distinctive festive appearance without relying on expensive decorations. Moclinejo has another unusual example of community participation. Every Easter, young residents collect flowerpots from doorways, patios and house fronts to help create the traditional Huerto del Niño in the main square. Adults join in with the construction, transforming the space into a recreation of the Garden of Olives. Once the celebrations finish, the plants are returned to their owners.

Councils also invest in village improvements

Local authorities are playing their part too. Comares has been carrying out maintenance and clearance work on gardens, paths and access roads, improving the approaches to the village and its walking routes. The council has also put the works for public toilets out to to contract beside the car park at the historic entrance, with a budget of more than €42,000.

El Borge, meanwhile, is helping promote the area’s Moscatel grape and raisin heritage, shared with neighbouring villages. The landscape, traditional grape-drying methods and local produce form an important part of its appeal.

These projects are not all linked directly to the competition, but they demonstrate the work taking place to preserve local character and make the villages more attractive and welcoming.

How to vote for your favourite Axarquia village

The six candidates are Alfarnate, Canillas de Aceituno, Comares, Cómpeta, El Borge and Moclinejo. Voting is organised by Pueblos Mágicos de España, with the Andalucian winner receiving the regional 2027 title. The competition is decided by valid public votes, and the result is due to be announced on November 16.

Adults resident in Spain can participate regardless of nationality. A maximum of three votes per IP address is permitted each day across all the competition categories, according to the official voting rules.

For residents and visitors who have a favourite corner of the Axarquia, this is an opportunity to show their support and help put one of the region’s villages on the tourism map.

Beer and cheese: Almuñecar prepares for a three-day food festival

Almuñecar is getting ready for a weekend of artisan food, craft beer and live entertainment as the Craft Beer & Cheese Festival 2026 arrives at Parque El Majuelo from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8.

The third year of this event will bring together five craft breweries and eight artisan cheesemakers, with organisers expecting around 3,000 visitors over the three days.

Local producers join the festival

Entry will be free, with the event designed to promote locally produced food and drink while giving residents and visitors another reason to enjoy one of Almuñecar’s best-known historic attractions.

Among the participating breweries will be Cerveza Segral, whose factory is based in Almuñecar’s P4 area. The company’s representative, Francisco Alonso, said the main addition this year was the introduction of artisan cheesemakers, creating an opportunity to combine two traditional products.

Most of the eight participating cheesemakers will come from Andalucia, although producers from further afield will also attend. Visitors will be able to sample and buy different varieties, including fresh, mature, smoked and goat’s cheese.

The festival follows other successful food events in the town, including EWN’s coverage of Almunecar’s Gastronomy Fair and the Costa Tropical Best Burger competition, both held at El Majuelo.

Two dedicated food areas will operate during the festival. El Templo de la Cerveza y el Queso, under the main marquee, will house the brewery and cheese stands, while El Palacio de la Brasa will serve grilled meats, burgers, salads and desserts.

Music and family entertainment

Entertainment will include acoustic concerts and live music on Friday and Sunday, while Saturday’s programme features a flamenco performance entitled Raices de la tierra at 1pm.

Families will also find a free bouncy castle for younger visitors.

Organisers have drawn inspiration from Almunecar’s Roman heritage, referencing ancient cheese-making traditions. The setting is particularly appropriate, as Parque El Majuelo’s Roman fish-salting factory is an important archaeological attraction within the gardens.

The festival opens at 1pm on Friday, November 6, and runs until midnight. On Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, the site opens at 10am, with the final day closing at 6pm.

With free admission, food, music and activities for children, the festival offers a weekend attraction for the whole family on the Costa Tropical.
