Drivers heading to Andalucía this weekend could face heavier traffic than usual as Spain prepares for 5.34 million road journeys over the All Saints holiday. The DGT has warned that the deadly train crash near Toledo could put even more vehicles on the roads, with passengers switching from cancelled rail services to cars and coaches. The busiest period is expected on Friday, October 30, when the holiday getaway begins.

Friday afternoon is when the roads will be at their worst

Drivers setting off on Friday October 30 are likely to meet the heaviest traffic of the weekend, with the DGT (Spain’s traffic authority) expecting queues leaving the big cities and on the main routes to the coast, the mountains and second homes.

Its special operation starts at 3pm, and the biggest jams are forecast between 4pm and 10pm. Saturday won’t be much better though, with busy roads from first thing in the morning before the queues move on to holiday destinations later.

The operation runs until midnight on Sunday November 1. However, it’s extended to midnight on Monday November 2 in Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura and Madrid, where Monday is a bank holiday. Across the whole period, the DGT expects 5.34 million long-distance road journeys, with plenty of short trips on top.

Rail passengers are expected to switch to the roads

The DGT said it will be keeping a close eye on the main routes to and from Andalucía, because trains to the region have been suspended after the crash at Urda, in Toledo province. With that in mind, it expects some passengers to move to coaches and private cars.

An AVE high-speed train ran into a stopped Iryo train on the Madrid to Sevilla line on Wednesday October 28. So far a total of 74 people have been confirmed dead, and the cause is still being investigated.

Sunday brings cemetery visits and the first journeys home

Sunday November 1 is All Saints Day, and many families will make short trips to visit cemeteries. From early afternoon, drivers heading home in the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Galicia, Murcia, La Rioja and the Valencian Community, where Monday is a working day, will start to fill the roads into the cities.

In the regions with a bank holiday, the return comes on Monday afternoon, with the heaviest traffic expected on the main routes and the roads into big cities. Drivers heading into Madrid should also expect delays on the A-1, where repairs to three viaducts near Venturada and Cabanillas de la Sierra have closed a lane towards the capital. The DGT plans to open an extra lane from kilometre 74 if conditions allow.

Spain’s new emergency lane rule applies in the queues

Drivers should also know about the emergency lane, which has been in force on motorways since Thursday October 1. When traffic slows to walking pace or stops, vehicles must pull aside to leave a gap for emergency vehicles.

On roads with two lanes in the same direction, the gap forms in the middle, with left-lane drivers moving left and right-lane drivers moving right. On roads with three lanes, it forms between the far-left lane and the one next to it, with the far-left lane moving left and everyone else as far right as possible.

Guardia Civil traffic officers will be out in force, backed by fixed and mobile speed cameras, helicopters, drones and cameras that catch drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts. Roadworks that affect traffic will be paused, and lorries will face restrictions on certain stretches at certain times.

If you break down, the V-16 beacon is compulsory. Before you leave, check conditions on dgt.es, @DGTes on X or by calling 011, and if you can, avoid setting off between 4pm and 10pm on Friday.

Someone In Fuengirola Is €35,000 Richer

Somewhere in Fuengirola, a coupon that cost only €2 is now worth €35,000. Anyone who bought a ONCE coupon in the town on Thursday has good reason to check their numbers.

Silvia Sanchez sold the winning coupon

Silvia Sanchez, a ONCE seller, sold the ticket worth €35,000 from the Cupon Diario (daily coupon) draw held on Thursday, October 29. ONCE announced the result on social media and congratulated both Silvia and the ticket holder.

How the Cupon Diario works

Draws take place every Monday to Thursday from 9:25pm. Players choose a five-digit number, and each draw offers 49 prizes of €35,000 to those who match all five digits, while the top prize of €500,000 goes to the five-digit number that also matches the winning series. Prizes at this level turn up regularly across Spain, since each draw offers so many of them.

Players can add an optional extra called La Paga (literally “the wage”). If the series number matches as well, it pays €3,000 a month for 25 years on top of the €35,000.

Where the money goes

ONCE is Spain’s organisation for blind and visually impaired people, and its lottery sellers work in towns and cities across the country. Many sellers are people with disabilities, and money from ticket sales helps fund ONCE’s support services. Every coupon sold supports that work while also giving buyers the chance to win a prize.

Not the first win for Fuengirola

It is not the first time Fuengirola has featured in ONCE’s recent run of good fortune. In July, a local resident won €1 million on a Mega Millonario scratchcard bought from seller Jose Manuel Campos, known as Josele, in Plaza de la Hispanidad near the fairground. Earlier the same month, a Fuengirola seller handed out a €1.5 million Sueldazo jackpot, part of a €1.82 million haul for the town

What to do next

Bought a coupon in Fuengirola on Thursday? Check the number against the results—the winning five-digit number was 61177. Congratulations to Silvia, and to whoever is holding the winning ticket.

TV Warning For Spain Residents As Channels Move And New Free Station Launches

Viewers across Spain who flick to Clan, BeMad or Atreseries next week may find them in a different spot, or not showing up properly, as the national channels are shuffled to make room for a brand new free station. The fix takes a few minutes and doesn’t need a new television.

Households will need to retune on Thursday November 5

Households across Spain are being told to run a fresh channel search on Thursday November 5, with the Government recommending viewers do it from 8am, once overnight technical work has finished. The changes are the first phase of Spain’s move to a new broadcasting standard called DVB-T2, the technology behind ultra-high-definition (UHD) free-to-air TV. Only one of the national multiplexes (the bundles of channels sent out together), known as RGE2, switches over this time, while all the others carry on as they are.

There’s no need to do anything before 8am on the day. Broadcasters have been running information campaigns since Monday October 5, and a second phase, which will make UHD the standard across national, regional and local channels, will only follow once enough households own compatible equipment. No date has been set for that yet.

Clan, DKISS, Atreseries and BeMad are among the channels on the move

The Government’s own retuning guide names Clan, DKISS, Atreseries and BeMad among the channels that change place, with Spanish press reports adding Boing as Mediaset reorders its channels. Clan’s move comes first, in the early hours of Tuesday November 3, when it joins one of the RTVE (Spain’s public broadcaster) multiplexes.

None of them are leaving Spanish television, and the official guidance says viewers won’t lose any channels. However, after the reshuffle a channel may sit under a different number, turn up further down the list, or not show properly until the television has searched again. Anyone with pay-TV from Movistar Plus+, Orange TV, DIGI or Vodafone TV doesn’t need to do anything, as those platforms update their own channel lists.

A new free channel, La Séptima, launches the same day

Joining the line-up is La Séptima, a new national free-to-air channel that starts broadcasting in high definition on Thursday November 5. It will share a multiplex with DKISS, so it’s one more reason to retune. The licence was awarded in May to a company called Servicios Integrados Entretenimiento Televisivo, and journalist Javier Ruiz, who has left RTVE, is lined up as its presenter and editorial director.

Like every other channel, it won’t appear on a television until the search has been run, so viewers who skip the retune simply won’t find it.

You won’t need a new television or aerial

For anyone wondering ‘do I have to buy a new telly?’, the answer from the Government is no. There are no changes needed to aerials, shared building installations, amplifiers or cabling, and no installer is required just to keep watching. Most channels stay in HD, and televisions without DVB-T2 will keep receiving every channel that’s still on the current system. Newer sets are likely to cope anyway, as every television sold in Spain since the National Technical Plan for TDT (digital terrestrial television) was approved in March 2025 has to be able to receive UHD.

The only catch is the new UHD (sometimes called 4K) versions of La 1, La 2, Antena 3 and Telecinco. To watch those, a television or set-top box must handle both DVB-T2 and a video format called HEVC, and a 4K screen on its own isn’t enough. Each of those channels is also broadcast in HD with the same programmes, so nobody misses out.

How to retune your television in Spain

The menus differ between brands, but the steps are much the same. Press Menu, Home or Settings on the remote, then look for a section called Channels, Broadcast, Installation, Setup or Tuning.

Choose automatic channel search (Búsqueda automática or Sintonización automática), picking Antenna if the television asks for the signal type. Then leave the television switched on until the search finishes, as turning it off halfway can leave the list incomplete.

When it’s done, save the changes and check that every channel is there. The list may come back in a different order, often alphabetical, but most televisions let you move channels around using an Edit channels or Sort channels option.

If something is still missing, ask your community of owners or building administrator, or call Televisión Digital, the Government’s helpline, on 901 20 10 04.

Marbella is getting ready for a glamorous night of championship boxing, fine dining and late-night entertainment when New Era Boxing brings its Black Tie Boxing Gala to the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella on Saturday, November 7.

For anyone looking for something a little glitzy next weekend, this event covers it all. A mix of professional sport, business networking, charity fundraising and Marbella nightlife, with a Commonwealth championship belt on the line.

Gibraltar champion Tyrone Buttigieg defends his title

The headline bout sees unbeaten Gibraltar fighter Tyrone “El Bombero” Buttigieg defend his Commonwealth super-bantamweight title against Tanzania’s Hassan Ndonga.

Buttigieg enters the contest with a 13-0 record, while Ndonga is listed with 14 wins, four defeats and one draw, with seven knockouts, according to BoxRec and the promoter. The Tanzanian challenger also has seven knockouts to his name and is reported to have previously held the national title in Tanzania in the same weight category.

Buttigieg has warned that he expects a difficult night after his split-decision title victory in March. Speaking to YGTV, he described Ndonga as strong and said he hopes to produce a better performance when he puts the belt on the line in Marbella.

Professional boxing meets a Marbella gala night

New Era Boxing, headed by British promoter Antony Neilson, is bringing you an evening that is more than a conventional boxing show.

Guests can not only enjoy professional boxing, but also get a full evening of gala dining, entertainment, business networking and a charity auction and raffle. Prizes announced so far include high-end helicopter experiences and jewellery, while promotional material also mentions luxury hotel stays and spa experiences.

All proceeds from the charity auction and raffle will be presented to the chosen children’s charity. The beneficiary charity is being chosen by the public via New Era Boxing’s social-media channels. A late-night after-party will also take you dancing into the early hours.

More fighters take to the ring

The announced supporting card will also feature several unbeaten fighters, giving guests plenty to watch before the main event.

Algeciras fighter Grizzly Ortiz, 3-0, faces Britain’s Deepak Pathak, who has a 1-6 record.

Swedish unbeaten fighter Agit Bilge, 7-0, takes on Venezuela’s Melbyn Hernandez, who has 10 wins, 21 defeats and two draws.

Britain’s Jordan Sherriff, 2-0, meets Nicaragua’s experienced Robin Zamora, 22-57, while Czech fighter Robert Toman, 8-0, faces Venezuela’s Keine Montenegro, 18-8.

Two further contests featuring Britain’s Freddy Warren and Sweden’s Patricia Berghult are listed by the promoter, although their opponents are still to be confirmed.

How to attend the Black Tie Boxing Gala

Tickets are available in three main categories. Standard admission costs €85 and provides access to the boxing. Food and drinks are not included, and smart clothing is required. Guests must wear at least a collared shirt or blouse with trousers or a skirt. Jeans and sportswear are not permitted.

VIP tickets cost €249 and include the gala experience, dinner and drinks. Black-tie dress is requested, with ladies encouraged to dress formally.

VVIP tickets cost €399 and add pre-event meet-and-greet opportunities, networking access and entry to the official after-party.

VIP doors are due to open at 6pm, with general admission from 7pm. The main event is scheduled to run until approximately 11.30pm, before the VVIP after-party continues into the early hours.
