For the last few years, residents of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera have been fighting against overtourism, leading to several mass protests. Now, a radical new plan has been put forward.

El Gobierno griego investiga el hallazgo, el pasado jueves, de un dron marítimo cargado con explosivos en las costas marítimas de la isla de Léucade, según ha adelantado este lunes el diario británico The Guardian. El ministro de Defensa, Nikos Dendias, ha señalado que el aparato, supuestamente de origen ucranio, “muy probablemente vino de un Estado extranjero”, sin especificar más. Las pesquisas, que incluyen equipos militares especializados, se han intensificado tras la detonación del dron el fin de semana. “Sabemos qué es y, más o menos, sabemos qué contiene”, ha afirmado Dendias.

Según el diario griego Kathimerini, el ministro de Exteriores George Gerapetritis tenía previsto informar a sus homólogos europeos del incidente en la cumbre que mantiene este lunes con sus homólogos del resto de países europeos en Bruselas. El diario griego ha afirmado que el aparato, encontrado por un pescador de la zona, se trataba de una embarcación identificada como un vehículo de superficie no tripulado (USV, por sus siglas en inglés) de fabricación ucrania y del tipo Magura V3. Estaba equipada con tres detonadores. El traslado del buque hacia una base naval cercana se produjo el viernes.

“Grecia tomará todas las medidas necesarias para garantizar que el Mediterráneo no se convierta en un escenario de operaciones militares”, ha señalado Gerapetritis en declaraciones a puerta cerrada, según informa Kathimerini.

El diario The Guardian informa, por su parte, de que la embarcación llegó a las costas griegas después de que su operador perdiera el control de la nave y que esta acabase desviándose de su trayectoria inicial. La preocupación en torno al incidente escaló tras descubrirse aproximadamente 100 kilos de explosivos a bordo. Las autoridades griegas no han confirmado si hallaron armamento.

Fuentes militares citadas por la prensa griega han afirmado que se está examinando el número de serie y el GPS que lleva integrado, en busca de pistas sobre su origen. La hipótesis principal de los especialistas apunta a Ucrania. Su objetivo sería alcanzar embarcaciones rusas de transporte de petróleo y gas en el mar Mediterráneo. Debilitar la capacidad exportadora del Kremlin ―y, por tanto, su economía, muy dependiente de la venta de combustibles fósiles― se ha convertido en uno de los principales objetivos de Kiev estos últimos meses.
