Holidaymakers boarding a Jet2 flight bound for the UK were ordered off the aircraft after a fellow passenger allegedly claimed to be carrying a bomb, triggering a full evacuation at Tenerife South Airport.

Flight LS1536, operated by a Boeing 737-800, had been due to leave Tenerife for London Stansted at 11:20am local time. Everyone on board was taken off the plane while officers from Spain’s Civil Guard carried out an emergency security check.

What sparked the bomb scare

Reports from Spanish outlet Diario de Avisos state that one traveller alerted staff to a claim that an explosive device was hidden inside their luggage. Claim triggered the standard protocol airlines and airports follow whenever a threat of this kind is made. Passengers were taken off the aircraft as a precautionary measure while the situation was assessed.

Civil Guard sweeps aircraft and baggage

Officers isolated the jet and began an inspection of the cabin, hold and passenger luggage, according to Spanish media. Checks were carried out to rule out the presence of any explosive device before passengers could return to the aircraft. Nothing resembling a bomb is said to have been found. Checks concluded and passengers reboarded, with LS1536 departing at approximately 1:45pm, around two and a half hours later than scheduled

Jet2 confirms incident involving passenger

Jet2 confirmed passengers had been asked to disembark following an incident involving someone travelling on the flight, and said staff worked with local authorities before the service continued to Stansted. Investigators must now establish the responsibilities involved in the incident, with initial enquiries pointing towards a false alarm on the part of the traveller who raised it.

Not the first Spanish airport bomb scare this year

Spanish airports have faced similar alerts before. Barcelona have suffered a recent incident as reported here in July and also Malaga passengers also endured delays due to a scare back in May 2026

Incidents of this nature typically trigger the same precautionary response seen in Tenerife, with security services treating any threat as credible until checks prove otherwise.
