Malaga CF to get new 55,000-capacity stadium in university zone expansion by 2032

Published

on

Malaga’s local council has chosen the university expansion zone to host the new Rosaleda stadium for Malaga CF. The development will provide space for 55,000 spectators across 66,037 square metres with a base contract budget set at €414 million.

Detailed study identifies clear winner

To the disappointment of nostalgists for a continuation of the Rosaleda site, with Malaga CF winning promotion to LaLiga, it was time to make a decisive move on the future of the team’s headquarters. A team of experts examined five initial locations before narrowing choices to three finalists after early rejection of Lagar de Oliveros for insufficient size and Manzana Verde over conflicting housing plans. The offers that were left on the table included the rebuild of the existing Rosaleda, San Cayetano sites and university expansion. University expansion was overall considered the best choice in all 68 indicators across physical conditions, accessibility, plot capacity, planning ease, traffic capacity and urban integration.

Capacity and financial advantages

Capacity at the chosen location reaches 55,000 seats and allows for possibly even more expansion. This figure exceeds the 43,000-seat maximum possible from a full reconstruction of the current site. Base contract costs for the university option stand at €414 million compared with €434 million for a rebuild of La Rosaleda and €588 million for San Cayetano. Existing planning permission and advanced urban works at the university site simplify and shorten approval procedures.

Access improvements for footie fans

Transport links offer 4,300 public transport spaces hourly at the university location compared with 2,300 at the current Rosaleda and just 600 at San Cayetano. Some 473,000 people reside within 45 minutes by public transport from the new site, while private car access covers 920,000 residents within 30 minutes. The university faculty car parks, including those at economics, psychology, industrial engineering and marketing, will serve matchday visitors as academic sessions finish before typical fixtures. Surface parking along existing roads provides additional capacity.

Timeline and broader benefits

Design phases will occupy three years with construction taking another three years to reach completion around 2032. Malaga CF continues matches at Martiricos in the meantime. The university site also permits stronger private investment attraction, which can lower public spending needs. Revenue is due to rise through major concerts, corporate events and other activities.

Mayor Francisco de la Torre has said the choice benefits everyone and the club by providing space for the 17,000 fans currently on the club membership waiting list while the strongest overall project takes priority over cost alone.

It’s Bajondillo, a beach in Torremolinos, that attracts the most British holidaymakers seeking a traditional coastal break in coastal Spain rather than better-known or higher-end spots like Cabopino or Estepona. That’s according to a survey by The Times, which places this Costa del Sol beach on a list of 28 outstanding shores in Spain, many located away from standard tourist paths and popular with international visitors.

Spain’s public beaches offer wide choice for visitors

Spain maintains close to 700 Blue Flag beaches along its extensive coastline with options available for every taste. Travel writers Kerry Spencer and Isabelle Kliger focused on Spanish travel and discussed the benefit of open public access at these locations. Such access contrasts with trends in Italy and southern France, where private development reduces the number of free beaches open to all.

Length and facilities at Bajondillo Beach

Bajondillo Beach provides an ideal setting for a classic escape in the lively coastal town of Torremolinos along the popular Costa del Sol. Proximity to Malaga city requires less than thirty minutes of travel time from the airport. Measurement of the beach puts its length at less than one and a half kilometres. A long promenade packed with tapas bars and chiringuitos borders the fine sand where ordered lines of sun loungers and parasols await those wanting to chill out by the sea.

Family focus and water sports at Bajondillo

Families with young children head to Bajondillo Beach in large numbers because of its children’s play zone and very gentle shallow waters near the edge. Youngsters can paddle and splash in safety while parents relax nearby. Extra options allow enjoyment of the sea through jet ski rides, kayak trips or pedal boat outings on the waves.

Nearby accommodation suggestion from The Times

Soho Boutique Hotel Las Vegas gets a nod from The Times for those planning time in the Costa del Sol. This three-star hotel occupies a convenient spot in Malaga city’s La Malagueta neighbourhood right across from Malagueta Beach, edged by rows of palm trees. Guests can find 107 light-filled simple rooms plus an outdoor pool at this relaxed property positioned about a twenty-minute walk from Malaga’s energetic central area and nearby attractions during their visit.

Benalmadena to rolls out 4-year leases for new public allotments to grow your own

Published

Benalmadena residents are to have longer-term access to public allotments as the local council extends plot leases from two to four years. This change hopes to let people invest more time in growing their own food while building stronger ties with their neighbours through shared green spaces.

Healthy habits take root more easily when families and individuals commit to multi-year projects that also teach younger generations about nature and healthy lifestyles. Direct contact with the soil and plants is said to promote wellbeing and reduce stress for many green-fingered folk already enjoying the existing sites.

Support for the updated bylaw came from cross-party councillors during the recent plenary council meeting. Only the socialist party decided to abstain.

Plot holders previously received two-year leases under the old rules. Fresh regulations now grant four years initially with options for two extra one-year extensions based on performance and need.

Mayor Juan Antonio Lara welcomed the move as a way to match rules better with the practical needs of garden projects. Preparation of soil, planting and harvesting cycles often stretch beyond short periods, so extended time lets users see full results from their efforts and feel more connected to the land.

Urban allotments deliver social and educational value other than their environmental gains by encouraging healthy routines and closer neighbourly relationships. Many locals already report better mental health from time spent outdoors tending plants and sharing tips with others in the same area.

New allotment sites go ahead

Work is continuing on fresh sites to expand the overall network. Crews are preparing ground at the municipal plot on Calle Jabea for new allotments, while the first phase of Al-Baytar Park has gained dedicated cultivation zones. These additions form part of efforts to create more places where people can grow food close to home. Once ready, the council will open calls for applications. Residents must complete the ecological horticulture course organised by the Ayuntamiento and apply via the citizen attention office.

Extended access is hoped will turn occasional hobbyists into dedicated growers who share knowledge across generations.
