SUMMER EYE CARE • VISUAL FREEDOM • CARE ACROSS EUROPE

By Baviera International

Summer is for enjoying

There is a lot to love about summer in Spain: long sunny days, the sea, the pool and late evenings outdoors. But our eyes do not always enjoy the heat as much as we do.

Hot weather, dry air and air conditioning can make tears evaporate more quickly, leaving the eyes dry, irritated or gritty. Screens may add to the problem. When we look at a phone, tablet or computer, we often blink less, which can make discomfort worse.

A little care can make a real difference

Take regular breaks from screens. Blink more often. Keep well hydrated and avoid sitting directly in front of air conditioning. These are simple habits, but they can help.

If the discomfort does not improve, do not simply put up with it. Our ophthalmologists can assess your eyes, explain what may be causing the symptoms and recommend the most appropriate care. Clear information is often the first step towards feeling better.

And what about glasses and contact lenses?

Summer can also make us more aware of how much we depend on them: glasses slipping down on a hot day, contact lenses at the beach, chlorine in the pool or searching for glasses as soon as we wake up.

For suitable patients with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, refractive surgery may reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses. The important word is suitable. There is no treatment that is right for everyone, which is why the journey begins with a complete eye examination and an honest conversation about your eyes, your lifestyle and your expectations.

A treatment designed around you

Our doctors take the time to listen, examine and explain. If laser or intraocular surgery is a suitable option, the recommendation is based on your individual needs — not on a standard solution.

The procedure itself is usually quick, painless and outpatient, with no hospital stay. But our care does not end when the procedure does. We stay with you through the follow-up process, answer your questions and monitor your recovery. The surgery may be fast; our commitment lasts throughout the journey.

One trusted contact in Málaga

For international patients, receiving medical care in another country can create extra questions. That is why our International Patient Service in Málaga provides a clear point of contact from the first conversation to the final follow-up.

We coordinate with the medical team, help the patient understand each stage and, when necessary, connect their care with our clinics elsewhere in Europe. The aim is simple: you should never feel that you are managing the process alone.

Care that travels with you

Baviera is part of a leading European ophthalmology network with clinics in Spain, the UK, Germany, Austria and Italy, including Optimax in the UK and Care Vision in Germany, Austria and Italy.

This means that a patient may have surgery in Málaga and, when appropriate, continue follow-up care closer to home. Being international is not only about having clinics in different countries. It is about offering continuity, sharing the right clinical information and keeping the patient at the centre wherever they are.

See summer more freely

Summer is for swimming, travelling, laughing, exploring and making memories. For suitable patients, greater visual independence can make those everyday moments feel easier.

It is not simply about seeing better. It is about feeling freer – and having the reassurance that, wherever life takes you, someone is there to look after your eyes.

Baviera. European Ophthalmology Specialists. With you every step of the journey.

Alan Boardman’s Tuesday Fun Quiz For Charity At Christy’s Fuengirola

Costa del Sol fundraiser Alan Boardman has given his Fun Quiz for Charity a new regular home at Christy’s Irish Gastropub in Fuengirola. Tuesdays at 2.30pm is the slot, handy for just after lunch and fancy a giggle that also pays for something useful.

Seeing how popular Alans quizzes are, Christys have already talked him into hosting the quiz weekly, on a temporary trial basis during September. That is quite a jump from the old every-other-week rhythm at Fibbers in Torreblanca and Dixie’s in town. Alan still writes every round himself, in that slightly cheeky style regulars already know and love. Someone did leave an English quiz book behind the bar, which is a rum find in an Irish pub, but he will not be nicking questions from it. He has been doing this long enough not to need to cut corners.

Small price for great causes in the heart of Fuengirola’s social scene

Entry is still €2 a head. Every euro goes to a registered local cause. Alan rotates the beneficiary between an animal charity and one that helps people. Past quiz pots have gone to Pawsawhile Dog Rescue, ADIMI in Mijas, SEARCH in Coin, El Vuelo de las Libelulas, Last Chance Animal Rescue and Cudeca. Right now the pot is for Aristochat, the Mijas Costa cat shelter, which takes in abandoned cats and finds them forever homes.

Christy’s is right in the middle of Fuengirola at Calle Olleria 20, an easy stroll from the Paseo. Staff are the same familiar faces week in, week out, and the covered terrace is private, air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter. First quiz day they sat 40 without a squeeze and still had room for latecomers. Sightlines are good and the sound carries, so nobody is craning round a pillar.

Perfect timing after a morning at Fuengirola market

Hungry types can sit the Tuesday roast first. It is a smaller plate than the Sunday roast that made the pub’s name, but it is only €9.95, with the main menu still available. Coffee, tea and soft drinks are on if 2.30pm feels early for what many call the best Guinness in town.

Jenny Boardman keeps the books tidy. Alan and Jenny post the accounts on their Facebook pages so anyone can see the cash went where they said it would. Same idea as his Mijas walking tours, which have now passed €30,000 for 27 local charities.

Turn up as a four or on your own for the now legendary fun quizzes for charity; Alan will park solos with a friendly table. Tables for food: WhatsApp Christy’s on +34 620 226 911.
