The Torrevieja Town Hall has officially opened registration for its Concilia Verano 2026 programme, an initiative that aims to bring families together during the summer in a safe, educational, and leisure space for the children in the town. The Town Hall, through the Department of Social Welfare, has launched this new edition of the initiative, and registration will remain open until June 8.

Torrevieja’s new edition of the summer school programme

The Concilia Verano is a summer school that will take place during July and August at the CEIP Maestro Salvador Ruso, and is aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 12 in Torrevieja. In total, the programme will have 100 open slots for the months of July and August each, and 10 additional monthly places will be reserved for children who require specific educational needs.

New additions: A free lunch service and more flexibility

One of the newer additions to the programme is the free lunch service, which will take place every day from 2:00pm to 3:00pm for the children who request them. This edition of the initiative will also include a Morning Classroom event at 8:00am, which is specially designed to help parents who need to go to their jobs early in the morning.

During the summer school, a wide range of fun, educational, and leisure activities will be offered for the children, promoting values including coexistence, camaraderie, creativity, teamwork and healthy habits. The summer school will also always be supervised by specialised professionals.

A fundamental programme for the parents of Torrevieja

Torrevieja officials have stressed the importance of this programme to support families in the municipality, especially in homes where both parents work full- or part-time. These municipal resources guarantee consistent and quality care for the children during the summer holidays.

Registration can be carried out electronically through the official Torrevieja Town Hall’s electronic offices, or in person by collecting and submitting forms at the Social Welfare offices. Parents who cannot commit to a full month will also be offered the chance to register for two-week periods, allowing them greater flexibility and adaptation to their schedules and needs.

Travellers from the Costa Blanca will soon be able to swap one Mediterranean coast for another as Wizz Air launches the first-ever direct flights between Alicante and Sicily.

The new route will connect Alicante-Elche Miguel HernĂĄndez Airport with Catania from 15 December, creating a year-round link between the Costa Blanca and the Italian island. The service is expected to appeal to both holidaymakers and business travellers looking for a convenient direct connection between the two destinations.

Enjoy Three Flights a Week

Flights will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

According to Wizz Air, flights will leave Catania at 2.40 PM and arrive in Alicante at 5.10 PM. The return service will depart Alicante at 5.55 PM, landing in Sicily at 8.10 PM.

The route will be operated using Airbus A321neo aircraft with a capacity for up to 239 passengers, offering travellers a modern and fuel-efficient aircraft for the journey.

A Growing Network from Alicante

The new service marks another expansion for Wizz Air at Alicante Airport, where the airline continues to strengthen its network of European destinations.

Catania becomes Wizz Air’s fourth Italian destination from Alicante, joining existing routes to Milan, Rome and Venice. The airline currently operates flights from Alicante to destinations across seven countries, including the United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Serbia.

Boosting Tourism in Both Directions

The launch is also expected to boost tourism in both directions, offering Costa Blanca residents easier access to Sicily’s historic cities, beaches and renowned cuisine, while giving Sicilian travellers a direct gateway to Alicante and the wider Costa Blanca.

With demand for international travel continuing to grow, the new route provides another attractive option for passengers flying from Alicante and further strengthens the airport’s connections across Europe.

Elche is set to strengthen its position as one of the Costa Blanca’s most diverse tourism destinations after plans were approved for a major new four-star camping resort in the Balsares area.

The project, promoted by Parks to Relax S.L., has received environmental approval from Elche Town Hall and promises to bring fresh investment, new employment opportunities and an increase in visitor numbers to the municipality. The development is seen as another important step in expanding Elche’s tourism offering beyond its well-known beaches, cultural attractions and UNESCO-recognised heritage sites.

A Modern Resort for a Growing Market

Designed as a modern resort-style camping destination, the development will cater for a wide range of travellers seeking flexible and affordable holiday options.

Plans include a dedicated area with 60 motorhome pitches, reflecting the growing popularity of campervan tourism throughout Europe. Alongside this will be 48 plots for cabins and bungalows, providing visitors with a more traditional holiday accommodation option while retaining the outdoor atmosphere that many travellers seek.

Additional space has also been allocated for conventional camping facilities, allowing the resort to welcome caravans, tents and a variety of outdoor tourism visitors.

When complete, the resort will have a capacity for up to 450 overnight guests. That figure could rise to more than 700 people when the restaurant, leisure facilities and day visitors are taken into account, creating a vibrant holiday environment capable of attracting guests throughout the year.

Extensive Leisure Facilities Planned

The development is intended to offer much more than a traditional campsite.

Visitors will be able to enjoy three swimming pools, sports facilities, children’s play areas and landscaped communal spaces designed to encourage relaxation and outdoor recreation. Plans also include a restaurant and terrace area where guests can dine and socialise, together with reception facilities and a range of supporting services.

€1.3 Million Investment in the Local Economy

The project represents a private investment of €1.3 million and is expected to generate economic benefits beyond the resort itself.

Local businesses, restaurants, shops and tourism operators could all benefit from increased visitor numbers, while the construction and operation of the site are expected to create new employment opportunities.

Municipal officials have welcomed the development, viewing it as a sign of confidence in Elche’s tourism sector and its potential for continued growth.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Development

Environmental considerations have played an important role in the planning process.

The resort has been designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating environmentally sensitive infrastructure and landscaping intended to blend with the surrounding rural environment. Developers have sought to create a project that complements the natural character of the area while providing modern facilities for visitors.

The environmental approval granted by Elche Town Hall is seen as a key milestone in moving the development forward.

Looking Ahead to Summer

There is already optimism that the motorhome area could be operational in time for the summer season, providing an immediate boost to visitor numbers and helping to establish the resort as a new destination for touring travellers.
