Finding a restaurant that combines good food, friendly service and excellent value is always a welcome discovery, and Alejandro’s Bar & Restaurant has been doing exactly that for more than 25 years. This long-established family-run favourite in La Zenia continues to attract residents and holidaymakers alike with its relaxed atmosphere, generous portions and varied menu, making it a reliable choice for any time of day.

Family dining at Alejandro’s in La Zenia

We recently stopped by Alejandro’s Bar & Restaurant in La Zenia, and it’s easy to see why this family-run restaurant has been such a popular choice since opening its doors in 1999.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Whether you are popping in for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a drink on the terrace, there is a genuine family feel about the place.

We tried the Menu del Dia, available daily from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and at €14.90 it offers excellent value. You choose a starter and a main course, followed by dessert or coffee, with a small beer, wine or soft drink included.

There was plenty of choice, from homemade soup, bruschetta or a fresh mixed salad to mains including spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, chicken schnitzel with chips and vegetables, chicken curry with rice, pork medallions in mushroom sauce or one of Alejandro’s pizzas. Desserts included mixed ice cream, apple strudel or coffee.

The food was freshly prepared, generously portioned and served by friendly staff who clearly take pride in looking after their customers.

Great value and weekly specials

Another reason to visit is the restaurant’s popular Wednesday Schnitzel Day, when freshly cooked schnitzels are served for just €13.90. It’s one of their busiest days, so booking ahead is recommended.

Alongside its daily set menu, Alejandro’s offers an extensive à la carte selection, giving diners plenty of choice whether they are looking for a quick lunch, an evening meal with friends or a relaxed family dinner.

A Costa Blanca favourite for more than 25 years

Having served customers since 1999, Alejandro’s has built a loyal following by focusing on consistently good food, welcoming service and a comfortable atmosphere. It is the kind of restaurant where many visitors return time and again, while newcomers quickly feel at home.

Alejandro’s is located on Carretera de Villamartín 2, La Zenia. To reserve a table, call (+34) 966 760 623 or email alejandros@gmx.net.

Costa Blanca water reserves reach record levels ahead of the summer season

The Costa Blanca is entering the peak summer season with its water supplies in a stronger position than ever before. Record reservoir levels, increased rainfall and improvements to water management mean the region is well prepared to cope with the annual surge in demand as residents and holidaymakers flock to the coast. The announcement provides reassurance for the more than one million people who rely on the network throughout the year.

Record water reserves for the Costa Blanca

There will be no worries about running out of water on the Costa Blanca this summer after the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla (MCT) confirmed it has record reserves heading into the busiest time of the year.

The authority, which supplies drinking water to 35 municipalities, including Alicante and Elche, says it is fully prepared to meet the increased demand created by the arrival of thousands of summer visitors.

Current reserves stand at 7.16 million cubic metres, equivalent to 87.18% of the reservoir’s total capacity, making it the highest level recorded since the system entered service more than 50 years ago.

The reservoir reached an all-time high earlier this year after a succession of Atlantic storms brought exceptional rainfall across much of Spain. Since the current hydrological year began in October, rainfall has reached 413.3 litres per square metre, around 40% higher than the previous year.

Officials also credit improvements introduced to the water management system in recent years, allowing supplies to be stored and distributed more efficiently.

A resilient supply network for residents and visitors

The MCT provides water for more than 1.12 million people through a combination of three main sources: the River Taibilla, the Tajo-Segura water transfer and desalination plants.

Although the River Taibilla normally provides only around one-fifth of the total supply, this year’s higher river flows have helped strengthen reserves and improve the overall resilience of the network.

The combination of diversified water sources and modern infrastructure has helped the system adapt to changing weather conditions while maintaining reliable supplies across the region.

Prepared for the busiest months of the year

With visitor numbers expected to rise sharply over the coming weeks, the strong reserve levels provide reassurance that the Costa Blanca’s water network is ready to cope with seasonal demand.

The record figures also underline the importance of long-term investment in water management, ensuring that homes, businesses and tourist destinations across the province continue to receive a secure and reliable supply throughout the summer.

The Vega Baja is gearing up for another summer of friendly competition, with two popular community events inviting residents to take part in everything from gravity-powered homemade vehicles to five-a-side style football. Whether you enjoy building imaginative creations or competing on the pitch, Benijófar and Los Montesinos are preparing to welcome participants and spectators for two of the season’s best-loved local events.

Crazy Cars Race returns to Benijofar

Benijofar’s popular Crazy Cars Race returns on Sunday, 12 July, with competitors once again taking to the streets in homemade vehicles for one of the Vega Baja’s most entertaining summer events.

Now in its 14th year, the race challenges teams to build imaginative, non-motorised vehicles before tackling a downhill course through the town. While speed plays a part, creativity, originality and plenty of humour are what really impress the judges.

The race gets underway at 8:30 PM, starting on Calle Pilar Miro before passing along Calle Juan Ramon Jimenez and Calle Pablo Picasso, with the finish line at the entrance to CEIP San Jaime.

Organisers are encouraging inventors, families, groups of friends and anyone with a flair for the unusual to take part. Whether it’s a pirate ship, movie character, giant animal or completely original design, almost anything goes as long as it can safely complete the course.

Entries are now open and must be submitted by 5 July through Benijofar Town Hall, benijofar.es, where competitors can also obtain the full rules and registration details.

The Crazy Cars Race has become one of Benijófar’s best-loved summer traditions, drawing large crowds each year to cheer on the colourful creations.

Football fever at the Los Montesinos Summer Cup

Calling all football fans. Registration is now open for the Los Montesinos Summer Cup, with eight teams set to battle it out in this year’s popular five-day Football 7 tournament.

Organised by Los Montesinos Town Hall, the competition has become one of the municipality’s biggest sporting events of the summer, bringing together players and supporters for plenty of competitive action.

The tournament is open to players aged 16 and over.

Sports councillor Ana Belén Juárez said the Summer Cup has become a key date in the town’s sporting calendar, attracting football enthusiasts every year while helping to strengthen the local sporting community.

She also praised the collaboration between the council and the local football club in organising the event, describing it as an excellent way to encourage participation in sport during the summer months.

Entry costs €100 per team, with places limited to eight squads.

Anyone interested in entering a team or finding out more can call (+34) 625 817 177.

Whether you’re taking part or cheering from the sidelines, the Los Montesinos Summer Cup promises an exciting week of football as teams compete for the tournament trophy.
