The Department of Youth of the Mazarron Town Council is preparing to launch a new healthy springtime initiative in the month of May, the CaminaFit Music Walk. This activity will come to the municipality for the very first time and combine sport, music, and entertainment in a fun initiative by the municipality’s famous seaside.

An immersive music experience along the coastline

The CaminaFit Music Walk will consist of an immersive walk along five kilometres of the coastline, where participants will walk to music through wireless headphones. This will merge physical exercise, dance, and fun in this workshop designed for people of all ages and fitness levels to participate.

With this initiative, Mazarron officials aim to promote healthy lifestyle habits and offer active leisure alternatives, while also contributing to the physical and emotional wellbeing of the residents of the municipality. The experience will be fun, dynamic, and high in participation, so any interested parties are encouraged to register.

The meeting point for the activity will be the Rihuete parking lot next to the Bowling Club. Check-in will begin at 9:30am and departure is scheduled for 10:00am. Registration costs just €5 and requires prior booking through the official website, caminafit.com. CaminaFit organisers will provide headphones to the participants. The Youth Department has encouraged residents and visitors to take part in this programme that will merge sport, a beautiful coastline, and socialising among Mazarron neighbours.

Additionally, triathlons, 5K races, and other types of sporting initiatives are picking up traction on the Costa just ahead of peak season. Whether walking with neighbours or taking part in an epic battle of athleticism, the residents of Murcia are showing their prowess when it comes to staying active.

Throughout the month of May, the Costa Calida municipality of Mazarron will host the Exhibition of the XXIX Road Safety Education Conference at its Cultural Centre. The conference will unite more than 1,000 schoolchildren from all of Mazarron’s educational centres, to participate in exhibitions of models, collages, and school projects, all related to road safety education.

A fundamental project to unite more than 1,000 students from Mazarron

Officially beginning on May 13 and lasting until May 31, the exhibition will feature 56 projects from preschool students, 90 collages made by first and second year students, and 88 models from students in the fifth and sixth years. Meanwhile, the projects made by the students from the third and fourth years were featured at the Road Safety Education Festival, held in April.

Detailed dioramas made by the students feature roads, small cars, and buildings

Namely, the exhibition features dioramas made by the students to represent city and town roads, including details like painted lines on the roads, different signs, stationed traffic officers overseeing the transport, and structured roundabouts. Surrounding these, the students have created models of homes, hotels, shops, trees, plants, and of course, little cars and buses to traverse the roads of their small towns and cities.

Where to see the students’ exhibitions

This exhibition will be open to the public at Mazarron’s Casa de La Cultura, or Cultural Centre, located at Calle Entierro de la Sardina, 65. It will be free to enter and is available for viewing during the regular opening hours of the building.

This programme forms an essential part of the educational curriculum of the young students of Mazarron. Working on these exhibitions not only educates the students about road safety; it also lets children get creative with their projects and teaches them important values including teamwork, coexistence, and listening to others’ ideas. It is just one of the ways that Mazarron gets creative with its students in order to teach them important life and social skills.

Murcia Breaks Donor Record After Historic Bone Marrow Campaign

The Region of Murcia has reached an astounding donor record after a historic campaign. After the bone marrow donor recruitment campaign, held in tandem with the 2nd Regional Solid Organ and Bone Marrow Donor Day and the 3rd Region of Murcia Match, more than 2,100 residents of Murcia have registered as new donors, doubling the figures from previous years.

More than 30,000 people now registered as bone marrow donors in Murcia

With this new development, more than 30,000 people in total are now registered in the Region. The Regional Transplant Coordination had originally set this amount as a target for 2026, meaning Murcia has blown the record out of the water several months ahead of schedule. Murcia is also now one of the autonomous communities with the highest number of donors, proportionally to the population.

The campaign was carried out between May 10 and May 13 in the Region of Murcia’s various hospitals, health centres, universities, the Regional Blood Donation Centre, and various other points and establishments throughout the Region. The campaign has been a booming success; in previous editions of the campaign, 1,000 new donors were registered in 2023 and just 950 in 2025. The strong participation this year bodes well for the involvement of the people of Murcia in donation and solidarity.

The Fun Run united thousands of participants in the Region

One of the major points of the campaign was the “Run to Give Life” Fun Run, a sporting event held on Sunday, May 10, in which more than 3,000 people participated. During the event alone, some 350 people registered as bone marrow donors, showing the power of these kinds of fun and active initiatives to get the community involved.

Dozens of centres participate in the campaign this year

This edition of the campaign involved the collaboration of 10 public hospitals, 44 health centres, the 061 emergency medical service which set up a field hospital in Plaza de la Merced, the Murcia and Cartagena Blood Donation Centre, UCAM in both its Murcia and Cartagena campuses, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the El Palmar Health Campus, and the Espinardo Campus.

By the numbers, hospitals and primary care centres recruited 1,200 new donors. Following them were UCAM, with 201 registered new donors; the 061 emergency medical service, with 109; the Blood Donation Centre with 123 registered donors in its Cartagena and Murcia locations; the UPCT, with 44 registered donors; and the University of Murcia, with 56 new registered donors across its two campuses.

The campaign reached the smaller towns of Murcia as well as the larger ones. Amazingly, the hamlet of Barranda, in Caravaca de la Cruz, set up a table in the town square and was able to  obtain 28 new donors, despite having a population of fewer than 800 inhabitants.

A show of commitment and solidarity by the people of Murcia

With this incredible show of commitment by the people of Murcia, in municipalities and areas both large and small, the Costa Calida has made itself known for its healthcare solidarity initiatives in Spain and will continue to help save lives, stand with neighbours and residents, and support health centres in the Region of Murcia.
