This September, the Costa Calida hotspot city of Cartagena will celebrate the incredible 10th edition of the Camino de la Cruz-Punta Este Trophy Regatta, a maritime race that will bring together more than 400 sailors across fifty boats, and will have a strong charitable heart. The regatta, which will take place on Saturday, September 12, has already established itself as one of the most outstanding events in Mediterranean sailing, and as one of the benchmark events of the Camino de la Cruz Foundation.

The 10th anniversary: A thrilling event for Mediterranean sailing

The Camino de la Cruz-Punta Este Trophy Regatta, throughout its ten-year history, has now brought together close to a thousand boats, and has established itself as one of the leading nautical events in southeastern Spain. The race, expected to attract between 400 and 500 sailors, will have two starts, one from Cartagena in Murcia and one from Torrevieja in Alicante, both converging on the same routes.

Connecting Murcia and Alicante through sport

The event is not only a striking, exciting sporting event for residents and visitors interested in maritime sport, but is an important connection between the regions of Murcia and Alicante, consolidating a healthy tourism relationship between the two areas in Spain and driving crowds from either region to visit the other, year after year.

That evening, after the race, an awards ceremony will be held, beginning at 9:00pm at Trips Summer Club.

Raising vital funds for cancer research in Spain

One of the most important aspects of the event is its solidarity. As is tradition, the event will donate its proceeds to a charity in the area. This year, the event will donate its proceeds to the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Caravaca de la Cruz, standing in support of friends and neighbours in the Region of Murcia who are struggling with cancer diagnoses.

The Spanish Association Against Cancer has stated that their main goal is to reach a more than 70 per cent cancer survival rate by the year 2030, through research, resources, and early diagnoses for patients in Spain.

Once more, the Costa Calida municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar will combine sport and solidarity with the third edition of the AFEMAR Solidarity RunRún event in September, an initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for local projects related to mental health. The event, a running and walking race that will take place on Saturday, September 19, will lead participants around the Salinas and Arenales area and all the proceeds will go towards AFEMAR, specifically two of its projects.

The third edition of RunRún: San Pedro del Pinatar races for mental health

The newest edition of the race offers two categories, allowing athletes of all skill levels to participate in the charity and community event. The running category of the race will cover a distance of six kilometres and is set to begin at 6:30pm from the La Llana Beach parking lot, with the finish line located near the Marina de las Salinas. Alongside it, the walking category will cover around four kilometres, and is open to participants of all ages.

Supporting local charity and community initiatives

The event will transform San Pedro del Pinatar’s most natural spaces into a place of coexistence and solidarity, raising awareness about the importance of mental health care and the struggles local friends and neighbours may be undergoing.

The funds raised will go towards AFEMAR’s social purposes, and especially, to two of its projects: a new supervised housing facility for people with mental health problems, as well as improving the L-mental child and youth care service.

Prices and where to register

Those interested in participating in the AFEMAR Solidarity RunRún event can do so through the official website, babelsport.com, or in person at the AFEMAR headquarters at Calle Concejal Mariano Henarejos, 9, in San Pedro del Pinatar. Registration costs €12 for adults in both categories and €6 for children under 14 years of age. The organisation has also set up a “bib number 0” option, allowing friends, visitors, and neighbours to donate to the initiative even if they don’t want to participate in the race or walk. The registration period will close on Wednesday, September 17, at 10:00pm.

The San Pedro del Pinatar Town Hall, as well as local organisers, have encouraged residents to join the event, tie up their running shoes, and stand in solidarity with friends and neighbours struggling with various mental health issues.

Residents and visitors in the Region of Murcia experienced a triumphant start to the opening weekend of the Murcia Feria 2026, or Murcia Fair, taking place in the vibrant and bustling Costa Calida hub of Murcia City. Following an exciting and personal opening speech delivered by the renowned local artist Walls, alongside the Youth Orchestra of the Region of Murcia, the city has welcomed the first weekend of the long-awaited fair with a grand reception, in which thousands of locals and visitors have filled every iconic landmark across the city, setting record attendance numbers for the opening celebrations.

Culinary delights along the scenic riverbank: The best regional cuisine

The traditional heart of the festivities once again centred around the expansive gardens of the riverbank, where the famous Huertos del Malecón welcomed vast crowds from early afternoon into the late evening hours. Families and groups of friends gathered around the authentic food stands to savour the finest, most mouth-watering offerings of Murcian cuisine. Some of the most popular local delicacies included paparajotes, zarangollo, morcillas, and expertly-made artisan wines from the region. The colourful atmosphere along the riverbank showcased the deep-rooted pride and enduring passion that the city holds for its rich agricultural heritage and folk traditions.

Historical parades and reenactments bring the city centre to life

As the weekend progressed, the vibrant presence of the Moors and Christians festivities took centre stage throughout the historic heart of the city. The colourful decorations, dynamic parades by local groups, and thrilling historical re-enactments transformed the streets into a striking medieval setting, immersing residents and visitors in one of the most important cultural celebrations on the Costa Calida. The main celebrations, which took place primarily through the iconic Gran Vía and Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, offered spectators an unforgettable display of historic pride, cultural heritage, and festive atmospheres.

Unforgettable music and entertainment across the capital

Aside from the Moors and Christians celebrations, live musical performances and open-air entertainment form one of the most important parts of the Murcia Fair experience. Concerts hosted at various plazas and the bustling fairgrounds at La FICA kept the city alive with energy late into the night. Local authorities and festival organisers expressed immense satisfaction with the overwhelming turnout and the fun of the weekend’s events. As the festival continues to charm residents and holidaymakers enjoying September on the Costa Calida, Murcia stands united in celebration and eagerly anticipates the fair’s upcoming schedules, including even more fun, friends, and festivities in the beautiful city of Murcia.
