Costa Blanca shopping vouchers boost spending as Alicante scheme faces delay

Published

on

Shopping voucher campaigns are returning across the Costa Blanca in the run-up to Christmas, with Benejuzar and Los Montesinos offering residents extra spending power while supporting local businesses. Alicante shoppers, however, face a delay after the city’s 2026 campaign was temporarily postponed as a precaution following an international cybersecurity alert.

Benejuzar vouchers double shoppers’ spending power

Shoppers in Benejuzar can double their money on purchases at local businesses thanks to a new shopping voucher campaign running throughout November and into December.

The scheme will allow each person to obtain up to four €20 shopping vouchers during each of its two phases, giving them €80 to spend.

Shoppers pay half the value themselves, with Benejuzar Council covering the other 50 per cent. This means €40 buys €80 worth of spending power at participating shops, bars, restaurants and service businesses.

The first phase runs from November 2 until November 22 and is for residents of Benejuzar. Any unused vouchers will expire at the end of that period.

A second phase runs from November 23 until December 6, when people who are not registered as residents of Benejuzar will also be able to take part. A new application will be required for this phase.

Vouchers will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis through bonos.benejuzar.es while funds remain available.

Anyone needing help applying online can visit the Centro Social on November 3 or 4, when in-person assistance will be available.

The vouchers can be spread across different purchases and participating businesses and can also be combined with shop offers and discounts.

Los Montesinos offers €123,750 in festive vouchers

Christmas shoppers in Los Montesinos will be able to make their money go further this festive season with the return of the town’s Shopping Voucher (Bonoconsumo) scheme.

A total of 2,475 vouchers worth €50 each will be made available, representing €123,750 to be spent with participating local businesses.

Each €50 voucher is divided into five €10 uses, encouraging residents to spread their Christmas spending around shops and businesses in the municipality.

Residents aged 16 and over who are registered as living in Los Montesinos can apply for the vouchers from November 2 until November 10, or until they run out.

The vouchers can then be used at participating businesses throughout December, from December 1 until December 30.

Mayor Jose Manuel Butron said the scheme was designed to help families with the cost of Christmas shopping while ensuring more money is spent within the local economy.

Local businesses wishing to participate can register until December 18.

Councillor for Economic Development Ana Belen Juarez said every purchase made locally helps maintain economic activity and supports businesses in Los Montesinos.

Full conditions, participating business information and application details are available at bonos.losmontesinos.es.

Alicante shopping vouchers delayed by cyber alert

Shoppers in Alicante will have to wait a little longer for the city’s 2026 Shopping Campaign after its launch was postponed because of an international cybersecurity alert.

Alicante Council has temporarily disabled the campaign website and platform following the discovery of two critical vulnerabilities affecting PHP, technology used by millions of websites around the world.

Officials stressed that the problem did not originate with the Shopping Campaign website and that taking it offline was a precautionary measure.

Work is now underway to restore the service as quickly as possible while ensuring the platform is secure.

The postponement also affects the Shopping Voucher Senior scheme for residents aged over 65.

In-person sales had been due to take place until Friday, October 30, including at the Centro Municipal de Consumo and several social centres around Alicante.

Those sales will no longer go ahead on the planned dates, with a new timetable to be announced once the system is ready.

The council has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked shoppers and participating businesses for their understanding.

Anyone with questions about the Bono Comercio campaign can contact the organisers by emailing info@bonocomercioalicante.es.

Seven giant Baby Dolls have appeared at prominent locations across Alicante as part of a colourful exhibition with an important message. Created by the Juegaterapia Foundation, the sculptures are raising awareness of childhood cancer, supporting children undergoing treatment and highlighting efforts to make hospital stays more welcoming for young patients and their families.

Seven giant dolls appear across Alicante

Seven giant Baby Dolls have taken over prominent locations across Alicante as part of an exhibition raising awareness of childhood cancer and supporting children undergoing treatment.

Created by the Juegaterapia Foundation, the colourful sculptures stand 1.60 metres tall and transform the charity’s familiar dolls into highly visible symbols of solidarity with children and their families.

The exhibition runs across Alicante until November 20, giving residents and visitors plenty of time to discover the seven figures positioned around the city.

Exhibition supports children undergoing cancer treatment

The giant dolls were created to support children undergoing cancer treatment and to promote the importance of making paediatric hospitals more welcoming and comfortable for young patients.

Through their prominent positions around Alicante, the sculptures are also helping to give greater visibility to childhood cancer and the experiences of children and families facing treatment.

Alicante is only the second city to host the giant exhibition after Madrid, giving the initiative another major public setting in which to share its message.

Baby Dolls have a strong Alicante connection

Alicante’s connection with the dolls goes much deeper. Since Baby Dolls were launched in 2014, they have been manufactured in Alicante province by local company Munecas Arias.

The exhibition therefore also recognises the province’s role in the story behind the charity initiative.

Colourful sculptures spread solidarity and hope

Alicante Mayor Luis Barcala visited the sculptures alongside representatives from the Juegaterapia Foundation and children currently receiving cancer treatment.

He said the exhibition brings colour, solidarity and hope to Alicante while helping give greater visibility to childhood cancer and the experiences of families facing treatment.

The seven giant Baby Dolls will remain on display at locations around Alicante until November 20.

Alicante households can cut rubbish bills by 20% using brown bins

Alicante residents who regularly separate their food and organic waste could be rewarded with a substantial reduction in their annual rubbish bill. Through the city’s Tu Haces Alicante system, households can earn discounts of up to 20 per cent simply by recording regular use of the brown organic waste containers throughout the year.

Regular brown-bin use unlocks 20% discount

Alicante residents could cut their annual rubbish bill by up to 20 per cent simply by making regular use of the city’s brown organic waste containers.

The saving is linked to the Tu Haces Alicante system, which records household deposits of food and other organic waste through either a physical card or mobile phone app. More than 20,000 people are now registered with the app.

To qualify for the maximum 20 per cent reduction, households must record at least four organic waste deposits a month during ten months of the year, making a minimum of 40 qualifying deposits. Only one deposit per day counts.

Smaller discounts available with fewer deposits

Smaller reductions are also available. Eight qualifying months can earn a 15 per cent discount, five months 10 per cent and three months 5 per cent.

The deposits recorded during one year determine the reduction applied to the following year’s bill.

This means residents do not necessarily need to meet the requirements for the full 20 per cent saving to benefit. Regular participation at a lower level can still result in a reduction in the household rubbish charge.

Mobile app replaces physical waste card

Residents can use the Tu Haces Alicante app on their phones to open the electronically locked organic waste containers, rather than carrying the physical card.

The app also allows users to report street cleaning problems, follow their progress and request collections of unwanted bulky household items.

Using the app also makes it easier for households to keep track of their participation and see whether they are making enough qualifying deposits to secure a reduction for the following year.

Everyday recycling can reduce annual bills

For households already separating their food waste, remembering to register those brown-bin deposits could therefore turn an everyday trip to the bins into a useful saving.

With the maximum discount requiring at least four qualifying deposits during ten months of the year, regular use of Alicante’s organic waste system could ultimately reduce the following year’s rubbish bill by as much as 20 per cent.
